MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's and men's track opened their 2010 outdoor track and field season at the windy Trojan Field Friday. The Trojans captured 11 first-place finishes.
Host school Dakota State, Briar Cliff, Dakota Wesleyan, Jamestown and partial teams from South Dakota State and Gillette Community College (WY) participated in the meet.
On the women's side, Danielle Rowe captured a first place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.51 seconds. She won the high jump. Rowe cleared the high jump measure of five feet and one inch.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team (Laura Porch, Brandi Gau, Amber Krogstad and Rowe) placed first with a time of 51.45 seconds.
Krogstad captured the long jump with a measure of 4.76 meters. She won the triple jump (10.31 meters). Shelby Tollefson was second (9.95 meters).
Donna Lavea recorded a NAIA provisional standard mark in the shot put. She finished with a measurement of 12.61 meters.
Brittany Young placed second in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.86.
Stephanie Warnke was second in the 800-meter run in 2:25.51.
Clarice Bauer placed second in the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 11:29.43.
In the hurdles, Summer Bronson was second in the 100-meter in 17.49 seconds. She was third in the 400-meter with a time of 1:11.40.
On the men's side, the Trojans had strong performances in the middle and long distance events.
Tyler Van Peursem won the 800-meter run with a time of one minute and 56.28 seconds.
In the 1500-meter run, Andy Coy was first in four minutes and 7.22 seconds.
Cody Foreman captured first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.12 seconds.
Devon Berkness ran to a first place finish in the 5000-meter run. He ran with a time of 15 minutes and 29 seconds.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, the Trojans placed three runners in the top three. Anthony Drealan was first with a time of 9:57.44, followed by Matt Fideler (10:09.27) and Michael Hoffman (11:37.32).
The 4 x 400 relay team (Stacey Berg, Foreman, Coy and Van Peursem) captured first place with a time of 3:24.72.
Berg was first in the long jump with a measure of 6.07 meters. He was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.55 seconds.
Zach Bakker placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.89 seconds.
Dakota State will compete in the Vance Butler Invitational, hosted by Augustana College, on Friday (April 2nd) in Sioux Falls, S.D.
