HOFFMAN TABBED AS FIRST NSAA RUNNER OF THE WEEK:  Michael Hoffman, coming back for his senior year after taking his medical red-shirt (injury), was selected as the first North Star Athletic Association Cross Country men's runner of the week, announced on Sept. 16.  He finished fourth in the annual DSU's home meet – Herb Blakely Invitational – on Sept. 14 at the Madison Country Club.  Hoffman jumped to the lead for the majority of the race, but fell short at the finish line as he finished fourth.  He clocked a time of 26 minutes and 39 seconds in the 74-runner field, just 16 seconds short from his personal 8K best time of 26 minutes and 23 seconds at the 2011 Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Cross Country Conference championship meet in San Marcos, Calif.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State competed in their annual home meet on Sept. 14 at the Madison Country Club.  The meet started with the women's 5K race, which had 62 runners in the field.  Kayla Sveen was 40th with a time of 23 minutes and 10.61 seconds.  Anastasia Gentles placed 54th in 24:29.44.  On the men's side, Hoffman ran a time of 26:39 for a fourth-place finish in his final career collegiate home cross country meet.  Michael Carson was 33rd in 28:40.33.  Caleb Hemphill finished with a time of 30:39.87 for a 54th place finish.

COACHES' CORNER:  Anthony Drealan is entering his first year as Dakota State University head cross country coach and his third with the program.  In the past two years, Drealan's distance runners enjoyed terrific success at the national level.  Drealan is originally from Fulda, Minn., and graduated in May 2011 from Dakota State University with a degree in Business Education.  While at Dakota State, Drealan competed for the Trojan cross country and track teams.  Drealan holds numerous school records, including the indoor and outdoor Distance Medley Relay (DMR), as well as the outdoor 5000-meter record.  Drealan was a two-time NAIA All-American, once as a part of a national runner up DMR squad at the 2010 NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships, and also at the 2009 NAIA National Cross Country Championships.  Drealan also helped DSU win its first-ever Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) championship in cross country during the fall of 2009.   Drealan completed his master's degree in Health and Human Performance through Adams State University in June 2013.  He resides in Madison, S.D with his wife Samantha (Warnke).  He will be assisted by long-time DSU cross country/track coach Buzz Stevenson and Cody Foreman.
