McCOOK LAKE, S.D. – Dakota State's Michael Hoffman earned a spot in the 'Top 10' in the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Invitational cross country meet Saturday morning at Adams Nature Preserve. The Trojan men's place ninth as a team, while the DSU women's cross country had four runners competed.
Dakota State men's tallied a total of 245 points to finish ninth in the 8K race course, which featured a total of 133 runners from various schools including NCAA and NAIA. NCAA Division II Sioux Falls (S.D.) won the men's team title with 31 points.
Hoffman clocked a time of 25 minutes and 51.87 seconds to finish ninth-place. It was his second 'Top 10' place finish this season (Hoffman placed 4th in the Herb Blakely Invitational on Sept. 14). Michael Carson finished 57th in 27:54.03. Steve Selchert recorded a time of 28:52.75 to earn an 80th-place finish. Jared Sutton ran a time of 30:14.31 to finish 102nd. Caleb Hemphill placed 104th in 30:34.72.
Sioux Falls won the women's team title with 45 points. Dakota State did not field a complete team in the 5K meet, which featured 94 runners.
Kayla Sveen placed 69th with a time of 21:58.99 for the Trojans. Brooke Fritz finished 78th in 22:41.34. Anastasis Gentles ran a time of 22:57.32 to earn 82nd place. Victoria Sopko was 84th with a time of 23:11.59.
Dakota State will take a week off before returning back for their final regular-season meet. The Trojans compete in the Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 26. The women's race starts at 10:30 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 11:15 a.m. in Yankton, S.D.
