YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State's Michael Hoffman was the top North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) men's runner in the Mount Marty (S.D.) Invitational Saturday morning at Human Services Center. The Trojan men's cross country team placed ninth, while the women's had three runners competed in the meet.
The meet began with 5K women's race, featuring 129 runners from members of Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and NSAA. Dordt (Iowa) won the team title with 28 points. Katie Smelker of Mount Marty won the women's individual title with a time of eighteen minutes and 21.78 seconds.
Concordia (Neb.) won the men's race team title with 38 points. DSU scored 273 points to claim ninth-place as a team in the meet.
Hoffman ran a time of 26:13.56 to earn 12th place in the meet, which saw 159 competitors in the 8K race. Michael Carson finished 65th in 27:44.29. Steve Selchert was 103rd in 29:03.52. Jared Sutton placed 108th with a time of 29:17.80. Caleb Hemphill ran a time of 30:03.91 for a 125th-place finish.
Dakota State prepares for the upcoming postseason meet on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Trojans compete in the Midlands/North Star conference postseason qualifying meet, hosted on the campus of Haskell (Kan.). The meet will be held in Lawrence, Kan. with the women's race starting at 10:30 a.m. with men's race to follow at 11:15 a.m.
