THIS WEEK: The Dakota State Lady T's basketball team (2-2 overall record) plays a pair of in-state rivals on the road this week before returning home for the first time on Saturday evening. The Lady T's visit Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (4-1) on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Corn Palace in Mitchell. On Friday night, Dakota State travels to Mount Marty (S.D.) (2-1) for a junior varsity game at 4:45 p.m., followed by a varsity game at 7 p.m. The games will be held at the Cimpl Arena in Yankton. The Lady T's return home on Saturday evening, welcoming Trinity Bible (N.D.). Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
DRAINING 3s: Dakota State ranks 27th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (33.3 percent). The Lady T's is 37th in the nation in total 3-pointers made (37) and 42nd in 3-piont field goals made per game (5.8). Kylie Westover ranks 32nd in the nation in total 3-pointers made with 10 and 39th in the nation in 3-piont field goals made per game (2.5).
DSU VS. GPAC: Dakota State play a total of five opponents from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) during the month of November. The Lady T's kicked off with a 63-61 road victory at Midland (Neb.) on Nov. 1 before falling to Hastings (Neb.) 73-58 on Nov. 2 in the Midland Classic in Fremont, Neb. Wednesday's mark the third time this month that DSU will face a member of the GPAC. The Lady T's were scheduled to play Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 5, but was postponed due to inclement weather. The make-up date is set for Nov. 20 in Orange City, Iowa with a tip-off starting at 5:30 p.m.
LADY T'S IN HOME OPENERS: The Lady T's had won the last four home openers at DSU Fieldhouse with the most recent on Nov. 1, 2012. DSU routed Oglala Lakota (S.D.) by the score of 112-39. The Lady T's defeated Grace (Neb.) 83-36 in 2011-12 home opener, 78-73 over Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in 2010-11 opener and 67-48 victory over the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) in 2009-10 home opener.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State played a road contest in Des Moines, Iowa on Nov. 8. The Lady T's attempted to make a come back, trailing by 14 points in the second half and rallying back within two points. DSU fell short to AIB (Iowa) by the score of 79-75. Dakota Wesleyan split a pair of games in the Viterbo (Wis.) Classic in La Crosse, Wis. last weekend. The Tigers dropped a 89-74 decision to No. 6 Roosevelt (Ill.), but bounced back with a 79-75 victory over Bethel (Ind.). Mount Marty recorded an 87-61 road victory over Presentation (S.D.) on Nov. 11. Trinity Bible is scheduled to play Lake Region State College Tuesday night (tonight).
LADY T'S JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM UPDATE: The Dakota State Lady T's junior varsity team remained undefeated in four games with an 83-76 home opener victory over Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 11 at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's are scheduled to play Mount Marty on Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. in Yankton, S.D. DSU's junior varsity team is slated to return home at DSU Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Nov. 19 versus Northern State (S.D.) at 7 p.m.
DSU IS SECOND IN THE NATION IN 3-POINT DEFENSE: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, the Lady T's is second in the nation in 3-point field goal defense with a percentage of 16.2. DSU allowed their opponents to six 3-pointers made in 37 attempts through four games this season.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 11.3 points per game. She shoots 40.5 percent from the field. Cassie Jacobsen leads the team with 26 rebounds and averages 6.5 rebounds per game. She averages 2.8 assists per game for the Lady T's. Courtney Hulstein records five steals this season and averages 1.7 steals per game for the Lady T's. Alyson Drooger have five blocked shots through three games this season (1.3 blocks per game). She ranks 23rd in the nation in total blocks (5) and 40th in blocks per game (1.3). Dakota State is 27th in the nation in total blocks (11) and 31st in blocks per game (2.7). The Lady T's shoot 40.7 percent from the field, which is 49th-best in the nation.
