THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (3-4 overall record) returns back on the road on Wednesday evening. The Lady T's travel to Northwestern (Iowa) (5-0)—No. 7 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' national poll—in a make-up game from Nov. 5 (due to inclement weather). Tip-off from the Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa is set for 5:30 p.m.
FIFTH STRAIGHT HOME OPENER VICTORY: Dakota State recorded their fifth straight home opener victory on Nov. 16 at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's raced to a 55-12 halftime lead and never trailed in the game for a 91-37 victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.).
LADY T'S POST SEASON-HIGHS: The Lady T's had posted season-highs in several categories in 91-37 victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Nov. 16. DSU shot a season-high 71 percent shooting from the field in the first-half , converting 22 baskets in 31 attempts. The Lady T's also posted a season-high in field goal shooting overall with a percentage of 62.3 percent (33-for-53). Dakota State produced a season-high in assists (27), rebounds (50), 3-piont field goal percentage (54.5 percent), field goals made (33), steals (12) and points (91).
DSU VS. GPAC: Dakota State play a total of five opponents from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) during the month of November. The Lady T's kicked off with a 63-61 road victory at Midland (Neb.) on Nov. 1 before falling to Hastings (Neb.) 73-58 on Nov. 2 in the Midland Classic in Fremont, Neb. Dakota State fell to a pair of in-state rivals to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 70-59 on Nov. 13 and Mount Marty (S.D.) 72-60 on Nov. 15. Wednesday's game will mark the fifth opponent that DSU will face against a member of the GPAC. The Lady T's are scheduled to play five more games against members of the GPAC—Morningside (Iowa) on Dec. 7 and Dec. 31, Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Dec. 30 and Mount Marty (S.D.) on Jan. 10.
WESTOVER MILESTONE & RECORDS: Kylie Westover was recognized for her career milestone at Dakota State after the completion of the game on Nov. 16. She became the 18th Lady T player to surpass the 1,000-point club. Westover currently have 1,057 career points during her era at Dakota State. She drained 180 3-pointers, which is the third most career 3-pointers in the Lady T's basketball record book.
BLOCK THOSE SHOTS: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, Dakota State ranks seventh in the nation in total blocks with 25 and 20th in blocks per game (3.6). Alyson Drooger is 9th in the nation in total blocks (12). She is 15th in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 1.7 blocks. Sharee Galbraith is 39th in the nation with 6 total blocked shots. She recorded a total of nine shots on Nov. 16. Galbraith had five blocked shots in Lady T's 67-66 junior varsity game victory over Iowa Lakes Community College, including a block on ILCC's lay-up as time expired, and four blocked shots in 91-37 home opener victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.).
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State went 1-2 for the week last week. The Lady T's dropped a pair of losses to members of the GPAC foes—70-59 at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Nov. 13 and 70-62 at Mount Marty (S.D.) on Nov. 15. DSU bounced back in the winning column on Nov. 16 with a 91-37 rout over Trinity Bible (N.D.), ending their four-game losing skid. Northwestern kicked off their GPAC conference schedule with a pair of road victories. The Red Raiders, which scored at least 83 points in each of their first five games this season, defeated at Briar Cliff (Iowa) 114-81 on Nov. 12 in Sioux City and 99-83 at Hastings (Neb.) on Nov. 16.
LAST MEETING: Northwestern (Iowa) won the last meeting with the Lady T's on Nov. 7, 2012 at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D. The Red Raiders jumped to a 53-35 halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated DSU by the score of 99-58. The last time Lady T's defeated the Red Raiders was in 2008-09 season opener at the Tyson Center in Sioux City, Iowa. DSU rallied back late in the second-half to defeat NWIA by the score of 85-81. The Lady T's are searching for the first win in Orange City, Iowa since 2002-03 season when DSU defeated Northwestern 66-57.
LADY T'S JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM UPDATE: The Dakota State Lady T's basketball junior varsity team is undefeated in six games this season (6-0 overall record). DSU went 3-0 last week, including a pair of home victories at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's defeated Northwestern (Iowa) 83-76 on Nov. 11. Dakota State rallied back in the second-half to beat Mount Marty (S.D.) no Nov. 15 by the score of 83-77. The Lady T's survived a nail-biter on Nov. 16 with a 67-66 victory over Iowa Lakes Community College at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's are scheduled to host Northern State (S.D.) Tuesday night (tonight) at 7 p.m.
DSU IN THE RANKS: The Lady T's are 15th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense with a percentage of 23.3 percent. DSU ranks 19th in the nation in field goal percentage (43.8 percent), 25th in 3-point field goal percentage (34.3 percent) and 26th in total scoring offense (477). Dakota State is 35th in the nation in field goal defense, allowing their opponents to 36.2 percent shooting from the field. The Lady T's are 41st in the nation in scoring defense per game (64.6 points per game), 45th in total rebound margin (+3.0), 49th in socring margin (+3.6) and 50th in total steals with 53.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 11.6 points per game. She shoots 40.6 percent from the field. Cassie Jacobsen leads the team with 31 rebounds and averages 4.4 rebounds per game. She averages 2.3 assists per game (16 total assists) for the Lady T's. BreeAna Olson leads the team with 11 steals and averages 1.6 steals per game Alyson Drooger have 11 blocked shots this season (1.7 blocks per game).
