THIS WEEK: Dakota State (3-5 overall record) will play a total of three women's basketball games this week. The Lady T's play an exhibition game against NCAA Division II and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foe St. Cloud State (Minn.) (3-0) on Tuesday evening. Tip-off from the Halenbeck Hall is set for 7 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn. On Friday and Saturday, the Lady T's head to Menomonie, Wis. to play a pair of games in the Super 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout, hosted by Wisconsin-Stout.
SUPER 8 THANKSGIVING TURKEY SHOOTOUT: Dakota State and host-team Wisconsin-Stout kick off the Super 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout on Friday night. The game is slated for 7 p.m. at Johnson Fieldhouse in Menominee, Wis. The Lady T's will face St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Wisconsin-Stout had set up the tournament page on http://athletics.uwstout.edu/sports/2009/11/18/MBB_1118095050.aspx, which includes links for live video and live statistics/play-by-play.
BLOCK RANKS: According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, the Lady T's are 14th in the nation in total blocks with 29. DSU is 17th in blocks per game (3.6). Alyson Drooger ranks 13th in the nation in total blocks with 14 and 14th in blocks per game (1.8). In addition, Sharee Galbraith is 46th in the nation in total blocks with 7. Drooger moved up to No. 7 spot in the Lady T's record book for most career blocks with 87. Hali McClelland is sixth with 88 blocked shots. Maria Gengler owns the Lady T's school record book for most career blocked shots with 264 from 2004-08.
PLAY DEFENSE: Dakota State limited its' opponents to 23.9 percent shooting from the 3-point line, which is 13th-best in the nation. The Lady T's are ranked 33rd in the nation in field goal defense percentage (36.9 percent). DSU gave up an average of 66.8 points per game, ranking the Lady T's 50th-best in the nation. On Nov. 20, the Lady T's limited the nationally-ranked Northwestern (Iowa) to the lowest points total this season. NWIA, who was averaging over 100 points per game and 38 points for margin of victory, was held to a season-low 82 points in a 9-point victory over the Lady T's (82-73).
LADY T' OFFENSE RANKS: The Lady T's are eighth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (36.2 percent). Dakota State is 16th best in the nation in field goal percentage (45 percent). DSU tallied a total of 550 points through eight games, which ranks 49th in the nation. DSU had scored over 70 points in four games this season.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State dropped its only game on Nov. 20 last week at No. 7 Northwestern (Iowa). The Red Raiders defeated the Lady T's 82-73. It was the lowest points total that NWIA scored this season and the smallest margin of victory by the Red Raiders. St. Cloud State was 2-0 last week with 85-67 victory at NAIA's Grand View (Iowa) 85-67 on Nov. 20 and 83-59 home victory versus Wisconsin-Stout on Nov. 23. Wisconsin-Stout went 1-2 for the week. The Blue Devils won their home opener on Nov. 19 against Marian (Wis.) 89-74. Wisconsin-Stout dropped a pair of games against NCAA Division II opponents—at Winona State (Minn.) 69-62 on Nov. 21 and at St. Cloud State on Nov. 23. St. Scholastica remained winless in three games as they dropped a 74-69 road contest at Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Nov. 21.
LAST MEETING: St. Cloud State won the last meeting with Dakota State on Oct. 29, 2011. The Huskies won by the score of 87-59 in Lady T's exhibition game. DSU will play in their first-ever meeting with Wisconsin-Stout and St. Scholastica (Minn.) this weekend in the Super 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout in Menomonie, Wis. this weekend.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 12.0 points per game. She shoots 39.5 percent from the field. Cassie Jacobsen leads the team with 33 rebounds and averages 4.1 rebounds per game. BreeAna Olson leads the team with 15 steals and averages 1.9 steals per game Alyson Drooger have 14 blocked shots this season (1.8 blocks per game). She averages 2.4 assists per game this season (19 total assists).
