THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (4-6 overall record) returns home Saturday evening as they host the nationally-ranked No. 12 Morningside (Iowa) (6-3) of the Great Plains Athletics Conference. There will be a junior varsity game at 3 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at 5 p.m. Both games will be at DSU Fieldhouse.
LADY T'S JUNIOR VARSITY UPDATE: The Dakota State University Lady T's junior varsity team will play their lone game in December on Saturday afternoon. The Lady T's are 6-1 overall record (lost to NCAA Division II Northern State 67-65 on Nov. 19 at DSU Fieldhosue). DSU's junior varsity team defeated Morningside (Iowa) 82-70 in the first meeting on Nov. 4 in Sioux City, Iowa.
CAREER RECORDS WATCH: Two DSU Lady T's are listed in the DSU school career record list. Kylie Westover accumulated a total of 1,108 points, which is currently 13th in the Lady T's record book for most career points. She drained a total of 188 3-pointers, 3rd most career 3-point field goals made in DSU record book. Alyson Drooger amassed a total of 99 blocked shots, which is the sixth most career blocks in Lady T's record book. She recorded eight blocked shots—fourth most blocked shots in a single game in DSU record book—in 68-63 victory at Wisconsin-Stout on Nov. 29. Drooger owns the Lady T's record book for most blocked shots in a single game with 11 blocks versus Mount Marty on Dec. 5, 2012.
UPCOMING DECEMBER SCHEDULE: Dakota State are scheduled to play two home games at DSU Fieldhouse on Dec. 7 versus No. 12 Morningside (Iowa) and Martin Luther (Minn.) on Dec. 14. The Lady T's travel to Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Dec. 10. DSU is schedule to make a trip to California on Dec. 20 and 21. The Lady T's visit Cal State San Marcos on Dec. 20 and San Diego Christian on Dec. 21. Dakota State returns back to the Midwest to play in the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Holiday Classic on Dec. 30 at Briar Cliff and Dec. 31 versus Morningside.
LADY T'S IN TOP 20: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, the Lady T's are ranked in the top 20 in five different categories. Dakota State is ranked No. 5 in the nation in total blocks with 43. They Lady T's are eighth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (36.1 percent) and ninth in blocks per game with an average of 4.3 blocks. DSU ranks 11th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense (23.8 percent) and 16th in field goal percentage (44.5 percent).
DROOGER BLOCKS RANKS: Alyson Drooger leads the North Star Athletic Conference and Lady T's with 26 total blocks. She ranks third in the nation in total blocks (26) and fourth in blocks per game with an average of 2.6 blocks. She recorded a total of 12 blocks in a pair of games in the Super 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout, hosted by Wisconsin-Stout on Nov. 29 and 30.
DRAINING 3s: The Lady T's made at least two 3-pointers made in each game this season. Dakota State is 41st in the nation with a total of 53 3-point field goals made this season. Kylie Westover ranks 26th in the nation in total 3-point field goals made with a total of 22 3-pointers. Ten different Lady T players recorded at least a 3-point field goal made this season.
DSU IN THE RANKS: Dakota State ranks 35th in the nation in total scoring offense with 680 points. The Lady T's are also 35th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (37 percent). DSU ranks 44th in the nation in total assists with 127. Dakota State is 48th-best in the nation in scoring defense, allowing an average of 66.9 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT: DSU dropped an exhibition game at NCAA Division II St. Cloud State (Minn.) 88-63 on Nov. 26 after jumping to a 24-11 lead midway through the first-half. The Lady T's split a pair of games against NCAA Division III opponents in the Super 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout, hosted by Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis. DSU defeated the host-team Blue Devils by the score of 68-63 on Nov. 29, but fell short to St. Scholastica (Minn.) 72-62 on Nov. 30. Morningside fell to 1-3 in GPAC play after a 102-82 setback at Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 26. The Mustangs are scheduled to play at home versus Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in GPAC conference play Wednesday night.
LAST MEETING: The last time Dakota State and Morningside (Iowa) meet was on Feb. 7, 2012 in Sioux City, Iowa. The Mustangs won by the score of 76-43. The Lady T's defeated Morningside in the last meeting held at DSU Fieldhouse on Nov. 7, 2007. DSU won the battle of NAIA's 'Top 10' teams by the score of 92-82. MC held on to a 52-48 halftime lead, but the Lady T's outscored the Mustangs 44-30 in the second-half to secure the victory.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 13.2 points per game. She shoots 40.5 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger leads DSU in three different categories. She records 48 rebounds this season (4.8 rebounds per game), 22 assists (2.2 assists per game) and 26 blocked shots (2.6 blocks per game). BreeAna Olson leads the team with 17 steals and averages 1.7 steals per game.
