BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Dakota State University men's basketball team played their fourth and final exhibition game of the season Wednesday evening at Frost Arena. South Dakota State defeated the Trojans by the score of 88-62.
Dakota State remains at 4-5 overall record. The Jackrabbits improved their overall record to 4-6.
SDSU scored its first five points of the game to earn a 5-0 lead with eighteen minutes and 53 seconds left in the first-half.
The Trojans answered back by scoring six straight points by a pair of 3-pointers by Ryan McCutcheon and Marcus Smith. DSU earned its first lead of the game at 6-5 with 15:41 remaining in the first-half.
DSU and SDSU went through three ties (12-12 with 13:20 left, 19-19 with 10:31 remaining and 21-21 with 9:41 left) in the first-half.
The Trojans were 5-for-7 from the 3-point line (71.4 percent) as DSU tied the game at 21-21.
The Jackrabbits closed the first-half by outscoring the Trojans 24-8 to earn a 45-29 halftime lead.
SDSU shot 17-for-27 (63 percent) in the first twenty minutes of the game compared to DSU 12-for-29 (41.4 percent). The Trojans were 5-for-12 from the 3-point line (41.7 percent), while the Jackrabbits converted six 3-pointers in nine attempts (66.7 percent).
Dakota State could get no closer than 14 points at 47-33 with 18:16 remaining as SDSU secured the victory by holding double digits lead for the rest of the game.
South Dakota State outscored DSU 43-33 in the second-half.
Marcus Smith led the Trojans with 16 points. He shot 5-for-11 from the field, including 4-for-8 from the 3-point line. Dylan Hale added 13 points off the bench. Cameron Krump tallied eight points as he made both two field goals attempts and converted all four free-throw attempts. Miguel Sansavour and Cameron Robinson each scored seven points.
Jordan Snyder earned seven rebounds for DSU. Sansavour added five rebounds.
Robinson dished out three assists for Dakota State. Sansavour, McCutcheon and Hale each had two assists.
Robinson stole the ball three times in the game for the Trojans. Snyder, McCutcheon and Yusuf Vinson each had a blocked shot.
Cody Larson recorded a double-double of 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for SDSU. Jordan Dykstra added 17 points. Anders Broman and Chad White each scored 11 points.
Larson and White each dished out four assists and recorded two blocked shots for the Jackrabbits.
SDSU shot 56.4 percent overall from the field (31-for-55) compared to the Trojans' 21-for-60 (35 percent). DSU drained 10 3-pointers in 23 attempts (43.5 percent), while the Jackrabbits converted 9 3-pointers in 18 attempts (50 percent).
South Dakota State outrebounded DSU 40-27 in the game.
The Trojans' bench outscored SDSU's bench 26-25.
Dakota State returns back in regular-season action Saturday evening. The Trojans welcome Morningside (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference in the annual 'White-Out' game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
