THIS WEEK: Dakota State (4-7 overall record) looks to bounce back in the winning column with a pair of non-conference women's basketball games this week. The Lady T's visit Trinity Bible (N.D.) (5-4) Tuesday night in Ellendale, N.D. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse. DSU returns home at DSU Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The Lady T's host Martin Luther (Minn.) (3-4) with a tip-off starting at 4 p.m.
DROOGER RECORDS 8 BLOCKS: Alyson Drooger recorded eight blocked shots in an 87-62 defeat to nationally-ranked Morningside (Iowa) on Dec. 7. She had eight blocked shots for the second time within a week (Drooger recorded eight blocked shots in 68-63 victory over Wisconsin-Stout on Nov. 29). Drooger's eight blocked shots tied for the fourth most blocked shots in a single game in the Lady T's record book. She owns the record with 11 blocked shots in a game versus Mount Marty (S.D.) on Dec. 5, 2012 at DSU Fieldhouse.
DSU BLOCKS RANKS: Dakota State amassed a total of 54 blocked shots through 11 games this season, which is the fourth-best in the nation. The Lady T's are ranked No. 7 in the nation in blocks per game, averaging 4.9 blocks per game. Alyson Drooger is second in the nation with 34 total blocks and third in blocks per game (3.1 blocks per game). She had accumulated a total of 107 blocked shots in her career at Dakota State, the sixth most career blocks in Lady T's school record book.
LADY T'S STELLAR DEFENSE: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Monday, the Lady T's are ninth-best in the nation in 3-point field goal defense percentage. DSU limited its opponents to 24.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line. Dakota State is 43rd in the nation in field goal percentage defense with a percentage of 37.8 percent. The Lady T's defense are allowing its opponents to 68.7 points per game.
DSU HIT 3s: The Lady T's are ranked eighth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage. DSU shot 36 percent from the 3-point range. Kylie Westover ranks 30th in the nation in total 3-point field goal made with 25. She is averaging 2.3 3-point field goals made per game for the Lady T's.
MAKING BASKETS: Dakota State had made at least 21 field goals in every game this season. The Lady T's produced a season-high 33 field goals in 91-37 rout over Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Nov. 16 at DSU Fieldhouse. In addition, DSU had drained at least two 3-point field goals in every game this season. Dakota State made a season-high 10 3-pointers in five-point loss at AIB (Iowa) on Nov. 8. The Lady T's had made 10 or more free-throws in 10 games this season.
LADY T'S JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM MAKES IT 7-1 RECORD: Every Lady T player scored in the game on Dec. 7 as DSU routed Morningside (Iowa) 80-45. With the victory, the Lady T's junior varsity team improved their overall record to 7-1. DSU had defeated all four NAIA schools played after Saturday's game, suffering just one setback to NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.) by just two points.
LAST TIME OUT: The Lady T's dropped their only game of the week on Dec. 7 to No. 12 Morningside (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) at DSU Fieldhouse. DSU hit a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to reduce MC's lead to 39-32, but the Mustangs outscored the Lady T's 48-30 in the second-half to secure an 87-62 victory. Trinity Bible won a pair of games last weekend, defeating Faith Baptist 73-29 on Dec. 6 and North Central (NCAA Division III) 60-54 on Dec. 7. Martin Luther recorded a pair of victories last weekend on their own home court. The Knights defeated Wartburg 82-75 on Dec. 6 and Central 52-49 on Dec. 7. MLC lost to Buena Vista on Dec. 3 in Storm Lake, Iowa by the score of 88-74.
LAST MEETING: Fourteen different Lady T's player scored in the game as DSU recorded their fifth straight home opener with a 91-37 rout over Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Nov. 16 at DSU Fieldhouse. Dakota State raced to a 55-12 halftime lead and never trailed in the game for the victory. Martin Luther won the last meeting with DSU on Dec. 1, 2012 in New Ulm, Minn. The Knights broke a 19-19 tie with a 13-0 scoring run and held a nine-point halftime lead (37-29). Martin Luther held their double digits lead for the rest of the game to earn a 71-59 victory.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 13.2 points per game. She shoots 39.8 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger leads DSU in three different categories. She records 52 rebounds this season (4.7 rebounds per game), 26 assists (2.4 assists per game) and 34 blocked shots (3.1 blocks per game). BreeAna Olson leads the team with 20 steals and averages 1.8 steals per game.
