THIS WEEK: Dakota State (6-7 overall record) looks to extend their winning streak this weekend as they prepare for a trip to California. The Lady T's will visit a pair of NAIA Division I schools. On Friday night, DSU makes their first stop at the MiraCosta College (1 Barnard Drive) in Oceanside, Calif. against Cal State San Marcos (6-8). Tip-off is set for 9:30 p.m. (Central Time)/7:30 p.m. (Pacific Time). On Saturday, the Lady T's travel to Grossmont College (8800 Grossmont College Drive) in El Cajon, Calif. to play San Diego Christian (6-1). The game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m. (CT)/5:30 p.m. (PT).
DROOGER LEADS NATION IN BLOCKS: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, Alyson Drooger leads the nation in two different block categories. She recorded a season-high nine blocks in 74-62 home victory over Martin Luther (Minn.) on Dec. 14. She piled up a total of 46 blocked shots (which is she already 8th in the Lady T's record book for most blocks in a single season) and averaged 3.6 blocks per game to become the nation's leader in blocks and blocks per game. Drooger is currently fifth in the Lady T's record book for most career blocks with 119 blocks. The Lady T's are fourth in the nation in both blocks per game (5.3) and total blocks (69) through 12 games this season.
LADY T'S ON THE ROAD: Dakota State improved their road record to 4-4 this season after a 96-56 rout at Trinity Bible (N.D.). on Dec. 10. The Lady T's recorded road victories at Presentation (S.D.), Midland (Neb.) (currently No. 10 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll), Wisconsin-Stout and Trinity Bible.
DSU AT THE FREE-THROW LINE: The Lady T's had made at least 10 free-throws in all game, except one game this season (6 free-throws at Northwestern, Iowa on Nov. 20). Dakota State made 16 free-throws in the each of the last two games that results in victories. Through 12 games this season, the Lady T's had made 183 free-throws in 274 attempts for a percentage of 66.8. DSU averaged 14 free-throws made this season.
KEEP SCORING: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, the Lady T's are 6th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (36.5 percent). DSU had drained a total of 69 3-pointers in 189 attempts this season. Dakota State is ranked 12th in the nation in field goal percentage (44.8 percent) by making 330 field goals in 736 attempts. The Lady T's dished out a total of 188 assists (30th in the nation) and scored a total of 912 points (35th in the nation) through 12 games this season.
WESTOVER 3-POINTERS RANKS: Kylie Westover drained a total of 31 3-pointers made this season, which is 24th-best in the nation. She averaged 2.4 3-poitners made this season, ranking her 39th in the nation. During her career at Dakota State, Westover hit a total of 197 3-pointers. Her 197 3-pointers made ranks Westover 3rd in the Lady T's for most career 3-pointers made.
FIRST MEETING: Dakota State will play their first-ever meeting this weekend with Cal State San Marcos and San Diego Christian (Calif.). Cal State San Marcos is a member of NAIA Division I Independent, which used to be an NAIA Division II Independent school in the first-ever year women's basketball program in 2011-12. The Cougars came to Madison, S.D. for the Association of Independent Institutions Division II Women's Basketball from Feb. 24-26, 2012. CSSM held on to a 62-59 semifinal victory over Indiana Northwest and won the championship by defeating Valley City State (N.D.) 54-52 in overtime to make their first-ever national appearance. San Diego Christian is a member of the Golden State Athletic Conference and suffered their only loss in seven games this season (6-1 overall record) versus Corban (Ore.) 61-52 on Nov. 23.
LAST TIME OUT: The Lady T's went 2-0 last week, defeating Trinity Bible (N.D.)96-56 on Dec. 10 and Martin Luther (Minn.) 74-62. DSU had won two straight games for the first time since the Lady T's won the first two games of the season (defeated Presentation and Midland on the road to open the 2013-14 season). Cal State San Marcos bounced back in the winning column with a 68-57 home victory over Simpson (Calif.) on Dec. 14. San Diego Christian defeated California Lutheran (NCAA Division III) in a low-scoring affair by the score of 47-44 on Dec. 15.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game. She shoots 41.0 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger averages 5.1 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game for DSU. Erin Rabenberg leads the team with 29 assists and averages 2.2 assists per game. BreeAna Olson accumulates 23 steals this season, averaging 1.8 steals per game.
