THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (8-11 overall record) returns home Friday night to kick-off their three-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Lady T's entertain their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) (7-8).  There will be a junior varsity game at 4:45 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at 7 p.m.  Terry and Lynn Ryan will be recognized as Lady T's basketball team as the honorary captains prior to the game and during halftime for their support and scholarship contributions to DSU Athletics.

WESTOVER EARNS 1ST-EVER NSAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK:  The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has selected Kylie Westover of Dakota State as its first-ever women's basketball player-of-the-week honor, announced on Jan. 6.  She scored in double digits all four games last week as the Lady T's went 2-2.  She scored 20 points at No. 19 Briar Cliff (Iowa) and 14 points versus No. 13 Morningside (Iowa) on Dec. 31.  Westover nailed down a buzzer-beater shot on Jan. 3 in a 54-53 thrilling victory at McPherson (Kan.).  She had 16 points in the game.  Westover added another 16 points in 67-59 victory versus Bethel (Kan.) as the Lady T's started the 2014 calendar year undefeated with a 2-0 record.  She scored in double digits in 15 straight games after the victory versus Bethel.  For the week, Westover averaged 16.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.  She shot 24-for-62 from the field, 10-for-35 from the 3-point line and made all eight free-throw attempts.

DROOGER SET BLOCKS RECORD:  Alyson Drooger broke her own personal record for most blocks in a single game in 54-53 thrilling road victory at McPherson (Kan.) on Jan. 3.  She recorded a total of 12 blocks in the game, breaking her previous old record of 11 blocks in a game versus Mount Marty (S.D.) on Dec. 5, 2012 at DSU Fieldhouse.  Drooger had a total of 20 blocks in the McPherson (Kan.) Classic, averaging 10.0 blocks per game (2 games).  She recorded at least seven blocks in a single game six times this season.  Drooger had recorded a total of 82 blocks this season, which is the second-most blocks in a single season in the Lady T's record book (Maria Gengler holds the school record with 102 blocks during the 2007-08 season).

BLOCK PARTY:  Dakota State continues to rack up more blocks this season, leading the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball in most blocks with 117 blocks.  The Lady T's is second in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 6.2.  Currently, Alyson Drooger leads the nation in blocks and blocks per game.  She averages 4.3 blocks per game and accumulates a total of 82 blocks through 19 games this season.

CAREER VICTORY NO. 350:  Jeff Dittman recorded his 350th career collegiate coaching victory after 67-59 victory versus Bethel (Kan.) on Jan. 4.  He currently holds a career collegiate coaching overall record of 350-275, including a career record of 259-232 record at Dakota State (91-43 coaching record in four years at Hastings, Neb.).

SOARING OFFENSE:  According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, the Lady T's poured in a total of 1,284 points—No. 15 in the nation in total scoring offense.  DSU is 20th in the nation in total assists with 252 assists.  The Lady T's are 21st in the nation in field goal percentage (43.2 percent) and 28th in total 3-point field goals made (104).  Dakota State is 29th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (33.3 percent).  Kylie Westover drained a total of 45 3-point field goals made, which is 15th-best in the nation.

REGIONALLY SPEAKING:  The third weekly North Star Athletic Association rankings had been released on Jan. 3.  There is no change in the ranking where Jamestown (N.D.) still hold the No. 1 spot with a 15-1 overall record.  Mayville State (N.D.) (11-2) is second, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) (6-6) at No. 3, Dakota State (S.D.) (8-11) at No. 4 and Presentation (S.D.) (4-10) at No. 5.  The North Star Athletic Association conference play will officially kick off on Wednesday, Jan. 22. 

DSU JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM RETURNS BACK TO ACTION:  The Dakota State University Lady T's junior varsity team will be back in action on Friday versus Mount Marty (S.D.).  Tip-off is set for 4:45 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Lady T's junior varsity basketball team is 7-1 overall record this season (opened the season with six straight wins before losing in a nail-biter to NCAA Division II Northern State's junior varsity team 67-65 on Nov. 19).  DSU's junior varsity team is scheduled to play five games this month—including three-game road trip at Northwestern (Iowa) on Jan. 16, Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Jan. 20 and Northern State (S.D.) on Jan. 27.  The Lady T's junior varsity team returns home on Jan. 30 for their last game versus Dakota Wesleyan at DSU Fieldhouse.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State had their busiest week of the season last week, playing four games in six days.  The Lady T's went 0-2 in the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Classic, dropping a pair of games to ranked opponents (No. 19 Briar Cliff, Iowa 89-73 on Dec. 30 and No. 13 Morningside, Iowa 89-50 on Dec. 31).  DSU bounced back in the winning column after sweeping a pair of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) in the McPherson (Kan.) Classic.  The Lady T's won in a nail-biter on Jan. 3 (54-53 at McPherson) and defeated Bethel (Kan.) 67-59 on Jan. 4.  Mount Marty ended their seven-game GPAC losing streak and recorded the first GPAC conference victory with a 76-63 road win at Nebraska Wesleyan on Jan. 4. 

TEAM LEADERS:  Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 14.5 points per game.  She shoots 40.2 percent from the field this season.  Alyson Drooger leads the team in three different categories.  She averages 5.7 rebounds (109 total rebounds), 2.3 assists (43 assists) and 4.3 blocks (82 blocks) per game.  BreeAna Olson records 40 steals (20th best in the nation in total steals) and averages 2.1 steals per game.
