MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University Lady T's shot a blazing 51.7 percent from the field Friday evening to defeat Mount Marty (S.D.) 78-45 in junior varsity basketball action at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's never trailed in the game to secure the victory.
DSU raised their overall record to 8-1 and remained undefeated against NAIA's junior varsity teams this season (5-0 record). It was the second straight game that the Lady T's junior varsity team held their opponents to 45 points.
Dakota State raced to a 42-23 halftime lead, thanks to their 58.6 percent shooting in the first-half (17-for-29). The Lady T's held the Lancers' to 24.3 percent shooting (9-for-37) in the first twenty minutes.
DSU had their largest lead of the game at 78-40 with 5:15 remaining in the game.
Four Lady T's scored in double digits in the game. Kendra Lindblad was 8-for-12 from the field, including 5-for-8 from the 3-point line and made both free-throw attempts to earn a game-high 23 points. Erin Begalka had a double-double of 16 points (7-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line) and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Lindblad dished out five assists for the Lady T's. Moore added four assists. Hansen and Begalka each had three assists.
Begalka and Swenson each stole the ball three times for Dakota State.
Galbraith recorded seven blocks and earned seven boards for DSU. Begalka and Lindblad each had two blocked shots.
Samantha Blake and Ashley Green each recorded a double-double for the Lancers. Blake had 11 points and earned 13 rebounds. Green scored 12 points and pulled down 10 boards.
Brittany Austin recorded four assists for MMC.
The Lady T's shot 30-for-58 from the field and 6-for-15 from the 3-point arc. The Lancers struggled from the field, shooting 27.3 percent (18-for-66) and 3-for-20 from the 3-pont line (15 percent).
DSU was near perfect from the free-throw line, converting 12 free-throws in 13 attempts (92.3 percent). MMC struggled from the free-throw line, shooting 37.5 percent (6-for-16).
The Lancers outrebounded the Lady T's 43-40.
The Lady T's outscored MMC 9-0 in transition points, 15-3 in points off turnovers and 36-26 inside the paint.
Dakota State's junior varsity kicks off their three-game road stretch on Thursday night. The Lady T's travel to Orange City, Iowa to take on Northwestern (Iowa). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
