MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota State earned their first volleyball victory in the two-day Corn Palace Classic event Friday, hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University. The Trojans defeated York (Neb.) in four sets by the scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-21 in the first match of the day. DSU earned a split for the day as they dropped in three straight sets (25-15, 25-17 and 27-25) versus Clarke (Iowa).
Dakota State's overall record stands at 1-3. York remained winless in two matches and Clarke stayed undefeated in three matches this season.

The Panthers edged the Trojans in the opening set by the score of 25-22. Dakota State bounced back to win the final three sets by identical scores of 25-21.
Taylor Stratton led the Trojans' offense with 12 kills. Kelci Viesselman and Brittney Anderson each added nine kills. Kylie Martin had seven kills. Stacey Schuller produced 20 set assists, while Kaylee Vander Wall added 19 assists.
Katherine Gonzalez recorded 19 digs for the Trojans. She had three service aces. Viesselman had 11 digs.
Schuller and Viesselman each recorded two service aces.
DSU had eight blocks in the match (compared to York four blocks), thanks to Anderson's five block assists and Martin four block assists. Stratton and Caitlin Pick added three block assists.
Rileigh Lieneman and Nicole Gates each had 12 kills for York. Melanie Baxa recorded 32 assists.
Tatiana Arvie led Panthers' defense with 16 digs. Alyssa Didier added 15 digs and Baxa had 13 digs.
Dakota State outhit York 46-35 in the match. The Trojans had a .140 killing efficiency compared to the Panthers' .041.
Clarke (Iowa) 3, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 - BOX SCORE
The Crusaders rolled in the first two sets of the match, winning 25-15 in first set and 25-17 in the second set.
DSU and Clarke battled in the third set, where the Crusaders came back and sealed the match by winning 27-25.
Martin had 11 attacks for the Trojans. Viesselman added eight kills. Schuller recorded 22 assists.
Schuller and Gonzalez each had 11 digs for DSU. Anderson had two service aces.
Katie Reynolds led Clarke with eight kills. Olivia Harris added seven kills. Allison Roth recorded 20 assists, while Corrin Larkin added 14 assists.
Larkin and Molly Bender each had 10 digs for the Crusaders.
Clarke outhit the Trojans 48-34 in the match. The Crusaders had a hitting percentage of .313 compared to the Trojans' .165.
Both teams had four blocks.
Dakota State continues their action in the final day of the Corn Place Classic Saturday evening. The Trojans play Saint Mary (Neb.) at 5 p.m. and host-team DWU at 7 p.m. Both matches will be at the Corn Palace.
