THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (9-14 overall record, 1-0 North Star Athletic Association conference record) returns back to NSAA conference action with a pair of games this week. The Lady T's entertain nationally-ranked No. 13 Mayville State (N.D.) (16-2, 2-0 NSAA) Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D. On Saturday, DSU plays their first-ever NSAA road conference game. The Lady T's visit Valley City State (N.D.) (10-7, 0-1 NSAA). The game is set for 4 p.m. at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City, N.D.
LADY T'S WIN FIRST-EVER NSAA CONFERENCE GAME: The Lady T's made history in their inaugural season with the North Star Athletic Association by winning their first-ever conference game on Jan. 22. DSU defeated Presentation (S.D.) by the score of 96-65 in both teams' first-ever meeting in the NSAA conference. Dakota State will be playing seven more NSAA conference games this season. The NSAA Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament kicks off on Feb. 26 with the championship game scheduled for March 3 at the highest remaining seed.
BATTLE OF NSAA UNDEFEATED TEAMS WEDNESDAY: Wednesday's evening game will feature a battle of two remaining North Star Athletic Association undefeated teams between Mayville State (N.D.) and Dakota State (S.D.). The Comets are 2-0 in NSAA conference play after defeating No. 3 Jamestown (N.D.) 83-75 on the road on Jan. 22 and Valley City State (N.D.) 76-58 at home on Jan. 25. Dakota State is 1-0 in NSAA after storming pass Presentation (S.D.) 96-65 on Jan. 22.
DROOGER LEADS NATION IN BLOCKS: Alyson Drooger continues her dominance in the nation for most blocked shots and blocks per game. She leads the NAIA with 94 total blocks and averages 4.1 blocks per game. The Lady T's are second in the nation in total blocks with 132 blocks and third in blocks per game with an average of 5.7 blocks per game.
LADY T'S OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, the Lady T's are ranked 25th in the nation in field goal percentage (42.9 percent). Dakota State is 27th in the nation in total assists with 326 assists. DSU scored a total of 1,581 points this season, which is 32nd-best in the nation. The Lady T's shot 32 percent from the 3-point line, ranking DSU No. 42 in the nation.
REGIONALLY SPEAKING: The North Star Athletic Association weekly rankings had been remained the same for the sixth consecutive week. Jamestown (N.D.), despite losing to No. 16 Mayville State (N.D.) in Jamestown, N.D. on Jan. 22, holds the No. 1 spot with an overall record of 19-2. Mayville State (N.D.) is second with 16-2 overall record, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) (10-7 overall record), Dakota State (S.D.) at No. 4 (9-14 overall record) and Presentation (S.D.) at No. 5 spot (4-14 overall record). The weekly rankings are used to rank the teams in the weekly NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' 'Top 25' national poll, which are released every Tuesday afternoon.
DSU JUNIOR VARSITY UPDATES: Dakota State's junior varsity basketball team is 8-2 overall record after dropping a 77-62 contest to NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.) on Monday night. The Lady T''s two losses came through Northern State this season, but are undefeated against NAIA opponents after defeating Mount Marty (S.D.) twice, Morningside (Iowa) twice and Northwestern (Iowa). The Lady T's junior varsity basketball team is scheduled to play their final home game of the season on Thursday versus Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State split a pair of games last week. The Lady T's opened up the NSAA conference play by soaring past Presentation (S.D.) 96-65 on Jan. 22. DSU dropped their final non-conference tune-up on Jan. 25 at Dordt (Iowa) by the score of 97-70. Mayville State extended their winning streak to 11 games after sweeping a pair of NSAA opponents. The Comets defeated Jamestown (N.D.) 83-75 in the battle of NAIA's 'Top 20' teams on Jan. 22. Mayville State defeated Valley City State (N.D.) 76-58 on Jan. 25 in Mayville, N.D.
LAST MEETING: Mayville State swept the season series with Dakota State last season including 66-55 victory in Mayville, N.D. on Jan. 30, 2013 and 77-43 victory at DSU Fieldhouse on Feb. 6, 2013. The last time the Lady T's defeated Mayville State was on Dec. 3, 2011 at DSU Fieldhouse. DSU outscored the Comets 11-4 in overtime to earn a 67-60 thriller victory. Valley City State (N.D.) had won the last nine meetings with the Lady T's, including three victories last season. The most recent game was on Feb. 16, 2013 as the Vikings defeated DSU 86-64. The last time DSU had defeated in Valley City, N.D. was on Feb. 2, 2008 by the score of 78-53.
QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's with 14.0 points per game and shoots 39.1 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger leads DSU in three different categories—5.7 rebounds (130 total rebounds), 2.4 assists (55 total assists) and 4.1 blocks (94 total blocks) per game. BreeAna Olson records 48 steals this season and averages 2.1 steals per game. She ranks 41st in the nation in total steals.
