MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) held off Dakota Wesleyan's (S.D.) late furious comeback Thursday evening at DSU Fieldhouse, hanging on to a 93-91 junior varsity home finale victory. The victory improved the Lady T's basketball junior varsity overall record to 9-2 and undefeated in six games versus the NAIA opponents.
Dakota State earned a 47-40 halftime advantage. The Lady T's had a double digits lead in the second-half and held off DWU's scoring run late in the game.
The Tigers missed a 3-pointer shot as the time expired as DSU secured the game by two points. DWU outscored the Lady T's 51-46 in the final twenty minutes of the game.
Kendra Lindblad scored 20 points, draining five 3-pointers in the game for DSU. Rachelle Moore had 15 points and stole the ball seven times. Summer Bailey scored 13 points off the bench. Jordan Hansen had 4 points.
Lindblad recorded eight rebounds and dished out seven assists for Dakota State. Hansen produced four assists.
Kelsey Little scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for DWU. Savannah Minder added 17 points, 6 assists and 8 rebounds. Kendra Cheeseman recorded 12 points.
The Lady T's shot 38.9 percent overall from the field (28-for-72) compared to the Tigers' 35.7 percent (30-for-84). DWU was 9-for-29 from the 3-point line (31 percent), while DSU was 5-for-12 (41.7 percent).
Dakota State went to the free-throw line 46 times, converting 32 free-throws (69.6 percent). DWU was 22-for-32 from the free-throw line (68.8 percent).
The Lady T's outscored Dakota Wesleyan 14-2 in fast-break points and 42-34 inside the paint.
Dakota State Lady T's junior varsity team is scheduled to play Northwestern (Iowa) in a make-up game (from Jan. 20) on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. in Orange City, Iowa.
