MANKATO, Minn. – Six Dakota State University weight throwers competed on the first day of the Minnesota State-Mankato Open at the Myers Fieldhouse.  The two-day meet kicked off on Friday afternoon.

The throwers comes mainly from NCAA Division II schools.  Both Ryan Gimbel and Ashley Currey were the top place-finishers from the NAIA level.

Gimbel placed ninth in the men's weight throw with a measurement of 14.82 meters (48 feet and 7.5 inches).  Trevor Van Tilburg was 16th with a measurement of 13.76 meters (45 feet and 1.7 inches).  There were a total of 29 throwers in the men's weight throw event.

On the women's side, Currey was 29th with a throw measurement of 12.28 meters (40 feet and 3.5 inches).  Shayna Dwyer was 31st after throwing a measurement of 12.22 meters (40 feet and 1.1 inches). 

Clara Schild placed 38th (11.34 meters – 37 feet and 2.5 inches) and Kelci Viesselman finished 40th (11.22 meters – 36 feet and 9.7 inches).  A total of 46 throwers competed in the women's weight throw event.

Dakota State continues their action at the Minnesota State-Mankato Open Saturday at Myers Fieldhouse.
