THIS WEEK: The Dakota State Lady T's basketball team (9-16 overall record, 1-2 North Star Athletic Association conference record) looks to bounce back in the winning column with a pair of NSAA conference road games this week. On Wednesday evening, the Lady T's travel to the Civic Center in Jamestown, N.D. to take on the nationally-ranked No. 5 Jamestown (N.D.) (20-2, 2-1 NSAA). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, DSU kicks off the second-half portion of the NSAA conference schedule, visiting Presentation (S.D.) (4-16, 0-3 NSAA). The game is slated to play at the Strode Center in Aberdeen, S.D. with a tip-off at 4 p.m.
NSAA CONFERENCE SCHEDULE: The first-half portion of the North Star Athletic Association conference schedule ends on Wednesday as Dakota State heads to Jamestown (N.D.). The Lady T's have four NSAA conference games remaining on the schedule as they kick off the second-half of the conference schedule on Saturday at Presentation (S.D.). DSU is slated to host Valley City State (N.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.) and travel to Mayville State (N.D.) in the second-half of the NSAA conference schedule. The Lady T's are currently in a tie for third-place in the NSAA Women's Basketball conference standings with Valley City State with a 1-2 NSAA conference record.
DROOGER SET NEW DSU SCHOOL RECORD IN BLOCKS: Alyson Drooger set a new Dakota State University record for most blocks in a single season. She racked up a total of 107 blocks this season, which broke the old record mark of 102 blocks set by Maria Gengler during the 2007-08 season. Drooger had recorded seven more or blocks in a single game seven times during this season. She accumulated a total of 180 blocks during her career at Dakota State, which is the second-most career blocks in the Lady T's record book. She owns the DSU school record for most blocked shots in a single game with 12 blocks in 54-53 road victory at McPherson (Kan.) on Jan. 3. Drooger leads the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball with 107 total blocks and 4.3 blocks per game.
SEARCHING FOR WIN NO. 10: Dakota State is searching for their 10th victory this season. The last time that the Lady T's had recorded 10 victories in a single season was during the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 10-18.
WESTOVER FROM THE 3-POINT LINE: According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Kylie Westover drained a total of 55 3-pointers which is 28th-best in the nation. She averaged 2.2 3-point field goals per game, ranking her 46th in the nation. Westover had drained at least a 3-pointer in 22 games this season, including her season-best 6 3-pointers in a home game versus Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Jan. 15. She accumulated a total of 221 3-pointers during her career at Dakota State, which is the third most career 3-pointers made (Kary Hottman—232 3-pointers at the No. 2 and Kathy Shypulski holds the DSU school record with 248 3-pointers).
REGIONALLY SPEAKING: The North Star Athletic Association weekly rankings had been remained unchanged for the seventh straight week. Jamestown (N.D.) holds the No. 1 spot with an overall record of 20-2. Mayville State (N.D.) is second with 18-2 overall record, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) (11-8 overall record) at No. 3, Dakota State (S.D.) at No. 4 (9-16 overall record) and Presentation (S.D.) at No. 5 spot (4-16 overall record). The weekly rankings are used to rank the teams in the weekly NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' 'Top 25' national poll, which are released every Tuesday afternoon.
DSU JUNIOR VARSITY HOLDS ON TO FINAL HOME GAME VICTORY: Dakota State survived a high-scoring junior varsity basketball battle with in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Jan. 30. The Lady T's held on to a 93-91 thriller over the Tigers in DSU Lady T's basketball junior varsity team's final home game of the season. The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team is 9-2 overall record, with both losses coming to NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.). The Lady T's junior varsity basketball team is undefeated against NAIA opponents with a 6-0 record. DSU is slated to play Northwestern (Iowa) in a make-up game on next Tuesday (Feb. 11) in Orange City, Iowa.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State dropped a pair of NSAA conference game last week. The Lady T's lost to NSAA's conference leader Mayville State (N.D.) 93-62 at DSU Fieldhouse on Jan. 29. DSU could not get back in the winning column after a 71-51 road loss at Valley City State (N.D.) on Feb. 1. Jamestown (N.D.) held on to a 77-74 victory at their long-time rival Valley City State (N.D.) in Jimmies' lone conference game of the week on Jan. 29. Presentation remained winless in three NSAA conference game after losing to Mayville State 98-61 on Feb. 1 in Mayville, N.D.
LAST MEETING: The Lady T's will attempt to snap their 11-game losing skid to Jamestown (N.D.). The Jimmies had won their last 11 meetings with DSU, including three games last season. Jamestown defeated DSU 97-72 on Jan. 19, 2013 in the Dakota Tip-off Classic in Jamestown, 82-70 in Madison, S.D. on Feb. 2, 2013 and 85-49 on Feb. 13, 2013 in Jamestown, N.D. The last time the Lady T's defeated Jamestown was on Jan. 10, 2009 where DSU upset No. 4 Jamestown by the score of 70-68 at DSU Fieldhouse. Dakota State is seeking for their first win in Jamestown's Civic Center since Feb. 1, 2008 (64-57 DSU victory over UJ). The Lady T's had won both meetings with Presentation (S.D.) this season, including a 71-60 non-conference season-opening victory in Aberdeen, S.D. on Oct. 30, 2013. DSU defeated the Saints in both teams' first-ever NSAA conference game on Jan. 22 by the score of 96-65 at DSU Fieldhouse.
QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's with 13.6 points per game and shoots 38 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger leads DSU in three different categories—5.6 rebounds (140 total rebounds), 2.3 assists (58 total assists) and 4.3 blocks (107 total blocks) per game. BreeAna Olson records 48 steals this season and averages 1.9 steals per game.
