MADISON, S.D. – Zach Ely of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected to the fourth edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Ely continued to record his personal best time in the men's 60-meter hurdles. He clocked a time of 8.59 seconds to finish second in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims at the Dakota Realty Alumni Track & Field meet, hosted by NCAA Division I University of South Dakota at USD DakotaDome.
Ely improved his time to 8.54 seconds to earn a runner-up honor in the men's 60-meter hurdles finals. His time is a new personal best time, which he broke his best time for the third straight week. His previous old personal best time was 8.61 seconds set at the Minnesota State-Mankato Open on Feb. 1.
Zach is the son of Scott and Sara Ely of Colton, S.D. He is a junior Exercise Science major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State have two regular-season indoor track and field meets remaining. The Trojans travel to Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday to compete in the Dordt (Iowa) Invitational. The meet will be held at the Dordt Recreation Center.
