AMES, Iowa – Junior Seth Boomsma of Dakota State (S.D.) advanced to the men's 60-meter dash finals at the NCAA Division I Iowa State Open. He was the top runner in the third heat prelims of the 60-meter dash that involved runners from NCAA Division I schools at the Lied Recreation Center Friday afternoon.
Boomsma, the only NAIA runner in the men's 60-meter dash race, clocked a time of 6.84 seconds to win the third heat. He recorded the fourth best time overall in the 22-runner field.
The men's 60-meter dash finals is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. He will be racing along with Hugh Grahm, Jr. of Florida (best runner in the event Friday with a time of 6.64 seconds), Emmanuel Dasor of Western Kentucky, Brandon Carnes of Northern Iowa and Brandon Kovash of South Dakota from NCAA Division I schools. In addition, there will be three unattached runners in the finals (Mandela Clifford, Rodrigo Rocha and Derek Kramer).
Boomsma, a two-time North Star Athletic Association Men's Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week, will be making his second consecutive trip to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in March.
