AMES, Iowa – Seth Boomsma, a junior at Dakota State University (S.D.), claimed a runner-up honor at the NCAA Division I track & field meet Saturday afternoon at the Lied Recreation Center.
Boomsma, 2013 NAIA Indoor Track & Field All-American runner, clocked a time of 6.78 seconds in the men's 60-meter dash finals to finish second in the men's 60-meter dash finals at the Iowa State Open. He finished behind the 60-meter dash champions from NCAA Division I Florida – Hugh Grahm, Jr. – with a time of 6.66 seconds.
Boomsma recorded a time of 6.84 seconds in the men's 60-meter dash prelims on the first day of the Iowa State Open Friday. He was the top runner in the third heat and fourth overall best runner in the prelims.
Boomsma, who already qualified for the 2014 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships (his second straight year that he had qualified for nationals), competed in the second NCAA Division I indoor track meet this season. He ran in the premier NCAA Division I track meet Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska at Lincoln earlier this month.
Dakota State competes in the final indoor track & field meet next Saturday at the Buena Vista Open. This will be the last chance that the Trojan track and field athletes to qualify for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, where it will be held in Geneva, Ohio on March 6-8.
