MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has selected Yusuf Vinson of Dakota State (S.D.) as its men's basketball player-of-the-week, announced Monday.
Vinson – 6-foot-4-inch forward – posted a double-double of 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Trojans' 65-51 North Star conference victory over Valley City State (N.D.) on Feb. 15 at the DSU Fieldhouse. The victory also moved DSU into a tie for second-place in the NSAA conference standings with the Vikings (4-2 NSAA conference record).
It was the seventh time this season that Vinson had recorded double-double in the game.
Vinson also had three steals and two assists in the victory, improving DSU's home record to 9-3 (3-0 in conference at home). He was 6-for-13 from the field (46.2 percent) and converted 7-of-9 free-throws.
Vinson, currently the leader in rebounds category in the North Star, leads the Trojans with 197 rebounds. According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website, he ranks 28th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (3.0) and 29th in total rebounds per game (8.6).
Vinson is 39th in the nation in free-throw percentage (82.8 percent). He made 106 free-throws in 128 attempts this season.
Yusuf is the son of Stephanie Vinson of Lincoln, Neb. He is a senior General Studies major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State – 12-14 overall record this season – plays their final two regular-season NSAA conference games this week. The Trojans visit Mayville State (N.D.) on Wednesday night. Tip-off from the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 p.m. in Mayville, N.D.
DSU returns home on Saturday evening as they host Jamestown (N.D.) in both teams final regular-season game. The game is set for 6 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse in Madison. Senior Night ceremony will be held prior to the game.
