MADISON, S.D. – Seth Boomsma of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected by the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) as its Men's Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week, the fifth-edition of the player-of-the-week was announced Tuesday. It was his third time this season that Boomsma had earned this weekly honor.
Boomsma competed in the NCAA Division I track meet for the second time this season as he competed in the two-day Iowa State Open in Ames. He won the third heat of the men's 60-meter dash prelims on Feb. 14, featuring runners from NCAA Division I. Boomsma, the only NAIA runner in the 60-meter dash, clocked a time of 6.84 seconds to advance to the finals.
On Feb. 15, Boomsma improved his time to 6.78 seconds to earn a runner-up honor in the men's 60-meter dash finals at the Iowa State Open. He finished behind the champion runner from NCAA Division I Florida.
Boomsma, who will run the 60-meter dash at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Nationals in March, is currently the second-fastest runner in the NAIA (6.77 seconds set at the Minnesota State Open on Feb. 1).
Seth is the son of Terry and Stacey Boomsma of Crooks. S.D. He is a junior Exercise Science major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State competes in the final regular-season indoor track and field on Saturday for the last chance to qualify for nationals. The Trojans compete in the Buena Vista Relays in Storm Lake, Iowa.
