THIS WEEK: Dakota State (S.D.) (12-19 overall record, 3-5 North Star Athletic Association conference record), fourth-seed in the North Star Athletic Association Women's Basketball Postseason Conference Tournament, looks to continue their postseason run in the NSAA Women's Basketball Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Lady T's travel to the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville, N.D. to take on the top-seed in the tournament, No. 11 Mayville State (N.D.) (22-3, 7-1 NSAA). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in the battle for spot in the first-ever NSAA Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament's championship game.
LADY T'S ROLL PAST SAINTS IN FIRST-EVER NSAA POSTSEASON GAME: The Lady T's rolled past Presentation (S.D.) in the first-ever North Star Athletic Association Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament's quarterfinal game on Thursday night (Feb. 27). The Saints missed their first 10 shots of the game and committed five turnovers to allow DSU earn a 15-1 lead. The Lady T's led wire-to-wire along with 14 different DSU players scored in the game for a 97-69, ending the season for Presentation.
NSAA POSTSEASON SEMIFINALS SCHEDULE: The semifinals for the inaugural North Star Athletic Association Postseason Conference Tournament have been set for Sunday afternoon after Dakota State earned the quarterfinal victory over Presentation (S.D.) on Feb. 27. The top-seed Mayville State (N.D.) will take on fourth-seed Dakota State (S.D.) at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in the first semifinal match-up. Jamestown (N.D.) (25-2, 7-1 NSAA), No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, will welcome third-seed Valley City State (N.D.) in the other semifinal at the Civic Center in Jamestown, N.D. Both games are set to tip off at 3 p.m. The semifinals winners move on to the first-ever NSAA Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament's championship game at the highest remaining seed in the tournament on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
SOARING LADY T'S OFFENSE: Dakota State had scored 70 or more points in four games of the last five games (3-2 record). The Lady T's are 4-0 record this season when scoring 90 or more points, most recently with a 97 points in NSAA quarterfinal victory over Presentation (S.D.) on Feb. 27. Dakota State had five players scored in double-digits Thursday night led by Courtney Hamblin with a season-high 15 points. Kylie Westover and BreeAna Olson each added 13 points. Cassie Jacobsen had 11 points. Erin Rabenberg scored 10 points off the bench. DSU is 4-1 record when they shoot 50 percent or better from the field (shot 56.3 percent in Thursday's night victory over the Saints).
DSU VS. MAYVILLE STATE SEASON SERIES: Mayville State—who have not played since Feb. 19 in their regular-season finale—won both meeting with Dakota State in North Star Athletic Association conference games this season. The Comets drained a total of 14 3-pointers and raced to a 46-26 halftime lead over the Lady T's on Jan. 29 at the DSU Fieldhouse. MSU recorded a 93-62 victory over DSU. In the second meeting of the season at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville, N.D. on Feb. 19, the Comets used a 24-6 closing run (in the final 9:18 of the game) to escape past the Lady T's by the score of 92-68. There were a total of 14 lead changes and three ties in the first twenty minutes. Dakota State is seeking for the first victory versus Mayville State since Dec. 3, 2011 as the Lady T's earned a 67-60 overtime victory.
DOUBLE DIGITS BLOCKED SHOTS: Thursday's game marked the ninth time this season that Dakota State recorded double-digits blocked shots. The Lady T's recorded 12 blocked shots in a 97-69 victory over Presentation (S.D.) in the NSAA quarterfinals. DSU recorded a season-high 14 blocked shots in 71-64 victory over Valley City State (N.D.) on Feb. 15. The Lady T's continue to lead the nation in total blocks with 203 blocks and average 6.5 blocks per game. Alyson Drooger, single-season school record in blocked shots, accumulated a total of 138 blocked shots and averaged 4.5 blocks per game to lead the nation.
WESTOVER RECORDS WATCH: Kylie Westover tallied a total of 1,398 points during her four-year career at Dakota State. Her 1.398 points is the fourth-most career points in the Lady T's basketball record book (Kathy Shypulski is the third-most career points with 1,432 points from 1997-2001). Westover drained a total of 70 3-pointers in a single season, which is the third most 3-pointers in a single season (Shypulski holds the Lady T's record with 95 3-pointers in a single-season). She had a total of 236 3-pointers during her career at DSU, the second most in Lady T's record book.
MOST VICTORIES IN SIX YEARS: Dakota State notched their 12th victory of the season, which is the most victories for the first time since 2007-08 season (21-11 overall record). The Lady T's improved their wins total with six more wins than last season. DSU finished their 2013-14 home schedule with a 5-5 record at the DSU Fieldhouse. Dakota State had won three games in the last five games.
LADY T'S IN THE RANKS: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Friday, Dakota State ranks 29th in the nation in total assists with 454 assists. The Lady T's are 35th in the nation in field goal percentage (42.2 percent), 41st in assists per game (14.6), 43rd in total scoring offense with 2,136 points, 48th in 3-point field goal percentage (31.8) and 50th in defensive rebounds per game (27.8).
QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's with 13.6 points per game and shoots 37.4 percent from the field. She ranks 31st in the nation in total 3-point field goals made with 70 and 45th in 3-point field goal made per game (2.3). Alyson Drooger leads DSU in three different categories—5.8 rebounds (178 total rebounds), 2.4 assists (74 total assists) and 4.5 blocks (138 total blocks) per game. BreeAna Olson records 57 steals this season and averages 1.8 steals per game.
