MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Dakota State University softball team returned back to action Wednesday in the Snowbird Invitational at the Grand Park. After a delay with a rain showers to start the first game of the day, Elizabeth Rubalcava hit a walk-off 2-RBI single with two outs to lift Trojans to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Pennsylvania College of Technology. DSU cruised past Gordon (Mass.) in the second game by the score of 16-5 in five innings.
Dakota State, who extended their winning streak to three games, raised their overall record to 5-1. Penn College of Technology dropped to 2-3 after their loss to the Trojans.

The Trojans score the game's first run in the bottom first inning. Erica Belter started the bottom first with a single. She swiped to second base. Stephanie Sandoval hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Belter to third base. Brittany Hill produced an RBI single with two outs to score Belter as DSU earned a 1-0 early lead.
The Wildcats scored twice in the top of the third inning to overtake the lead from Dakota State. PCT earned a pair of RBI singles by Karey Wolfe and Nicole Lo Furno for a 2-1 lead.
DSU answered back to tie the game in the bottom third frame. Belter led off the Trojans with a single. She advanced to second base by a stolen base. Belter added another stolen base to third base with one out. Rubalcava recorded an RBI single to score Belter to knot the game at 2-2.
Penn College of Technology scored once in the top of the sixth inning for a 3-2 lead. Delaney Blubaugh hit an RBI sacrifice fly as the Wildcats earned their lead for the second time in the game.
The Trojans mounted a late comeback in the final inning. DSU opened the inning with a pair of strikeouts. Pinch-hitter Rachel Hughes hit a single and Belter added a single to advance Lexy Miller (running for Huges) to second base.
Both Miller and Belter swiped one base as Miller advanced to third base and Belter to second base. Sandoval was hit-by-pitch to set up a bases loaded and two outs situation for Dakota State.
Rubalcava hit the game-winning 2-RBI single to score Miller and Belter as the Trojans rallied back for a thrilling victory.
Belter and Rubalcava each had three hits for the Trojans. Belter scored three times. Rubalcava produced three RBIs. Hill added a single and an RBI. Hughes and Samantha Mitchell each had a single.
The Trojans had seven stolen bases in the game. Belter swiped five bases. Rubalcava and Miller each added a stolen base.
Katie Kratzer was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double a single for PCT. Wolfe and Lo Furno each had a single and an RBI. Macie Lucas and Alexandra Brennan each added a hit.
Lori Harshbarger started on the pitching mound for Dakota State. She worked for five innings and gave up three runs (one unearned) on six hits. Harshbarger recorded three strikeouts. Bretton Lien (1-0) recorded the victory in relief as she pitched two shutout innings. She gave up one walk and struck out one PCT batter.
Arika Stopper (1-1) suffered the loss for the Wildcats. She tossed 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits. She recorded four strikeouts.
The Trojans outhit PCT 9-6. DSU had six runners left on bases compared to the Wildcats four runners left on base.
Dakota State (S.D.) 16, Gordon (Mass.) 5 – FINAL/5 innings
Holding a slim 6-5 lead heading in the bottom second, the Trojans racked up a total of 10 runs to earn a 16-5 victory over the Fighting Scots in five-inning mercy rule.
Gordon scored the first run of the game after Kara Pepper's RBI single to grab a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Dakota State exploded for six runs in the bottom first frame – all runs scored by two outs. After Sandoval was reached on base followed by Rubalcava's hit-by-pitch, the Trojans four straight RBI singles by Samantha Mitchell, Hughes, Kelli Heiser and Morgan Jaime to earn a 4-1 lead. Miller recorded a walk to set up a bases loaded situation for DSU. Belter hit a 2-RBI single to extend DSU's lead to 6-1.
The Fighting Scots exploded for four runs in the top second inning, thanks to a pair of doubles from Stephanie Zaloom and Marissa Meenan. Gordon reduced Trojans' lead to 6-5.
Dakota State's offense blazed for seven runs in the bottom second inning, expanding their lead to 13-5. The Trojans opened with seven consecutive batters reached safely by a walk or a hit, capped by Brittany Hill's RBI double, Hughes' 2-RBI triple and Jaime's RBI single. DSU added RBI single from Sandoval, an RBI ground out by Rubalcava and Brittany Hill's RBI single to hold an eight-run lead.
The Trojans made it 14-5 in the bottom third inning after Betler's RBI single.
Dakota State set up a bases loaded with one out situation after singles from Brittany Hill, Huges and Shai-Lee Hill (pinch hitter for Heiser). Jaime recorded an RBI fielder's choice (to score Brittany Hill) and pinch-hitter Jenilee Misko's RBI single (to score Hughes) as DSU's lead grew to 16-5.
Gordon went three-and-out in the top fifth inning as DSU secured the game by five-inning 10-run mercy rule.
Belter, Brittany Hill and Hughes each recorded three hits for the Trojans. Jaime, Mitchell and Heiser each added two hits. Sandoval, Shai-Lee, Miller and Misko each had a single.
Hughes produced four RBIs for Dakota State. Belter added three RBIs. Brittany Hill and Jaime each had two RBIs. Sandoval, Rubalcava, Mitchell, Miller and Misko each had an RBI.
Mitchell swiped two bases for the Trojans. Belter and Miller each added a stolen base.
Rachel Ryder was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Fighting Scots. Meenan, Skylar Bareford, Pepper, Zaloom and Gabriel Roberts each had a hit.
Bareford recorded two RBIs for Gordon. Meenan and Pepper each added an RBI.
Hughes (2-0) earned the victory on the pitching mound for DSU. She tossed five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. Huges struck out five Gordon's batters.
Bareford committed the pitching loss for the Fighting Scots. She pitched four innings and gave up 16 runs on 19 hits.
The Trojans outhit Gordon 19-6 in the game.
Dakota State looks to extend their winning streak as they play another pair of games in the Snowbird Invitational Thursday morning at the Grand Park. The Trojans play Ursinus (Pa.) at 9:30 a.m. and McKendree (Ill.) at 11:30 a.m.
