THIS WEEK: Dakota State (S.D.) will be sending two runners – Taylor Hauge and Michael Hoffman – to the Fremont Half-Marathon on Saturday.
FREMONT HALF-MARATON: The Fremont Half-Marathon, hosted by Midland (Neb.) with a 11 a.m. starting time, gives the runners their chance to qualify for 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in full marathon event. Runners in the Fremont Half-Marathon will need to finish between one hour and 12 seconds and one hour and 14 seconds to qualify for the full marathon event at the national meet. The national meet will be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 22-24.
DSU KICKS OFF OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON MARCH 29: Dakota State is scheduled to kick off their 2014 outdoor track & field season on March 29, hosting its own invitational. The Trojan Invitational will be held at the Trojan Field.
BOOMSMA NAIA ALL-AMERICAN: Seth Boomsma earned his second NAIA Indoor Track & Field All-American honor on March 8 in Geneva, Ohio. He ran a time of 6.77 seconds to earn a runner-up honor in the NAIA men's 60-meter dash finals. It was his second straight year that he had finished second in the national meet. Boomsma earned his fourth overall NAIA All-American status at DSU (earned NAIA All-American status two times in 2013 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Nationals – men's 100-meter dash and men's 4 x 100-meter relay).
COACHES' CORNER: Dakota State University track and field head coach Buzz Stevenson has been involved in sports since his high school days in Ipswich, S.D. and has been a coach and teacher for more than 45 years. While at DSU, Stevenson has garnered 14 South Dakota-Iowa Conference Coach of the Year titles and two NAIA Great Plains regional cross-country coach of the year awards. He has accumulated 14 SDIC championships and his athletes have produced 57 All-American honors. Anthony Drealan is in his third year as an assistant coach in track and field. Alex Glover enters his first season with the DSU track & field program as the throwing coach. Cody Foreman is also an assistant track and field coach for the Trojans.
UP NEXT: Dakota State is slated to kick off their 2014 outdoor track & field season on Saturday, March 29. The Trojans host its home meet – the Trojan Invitational – at the Trojan Field.
