TUCSON, Ariz. – Dakota State (S.D.) was unable to hold their 2-1 lead in the first game of the baseball doubleheader versus Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at Kino Sports Complex.  The Tigers went on to score six straight runs from the fourth through seventh innings to defeat DSU 7-2 in game one.  The Trojans held on to defeat Olivet Nazarene in the second game by the score of 4-3.

Dakota State is 4-10 overall record after the victory.  The Tigers are 5-10 overall record.

Game 1:  Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 7, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL

The Tigers earned their first lead of the game in the top second inning, thanks to Jordan Hayes' opening triple.  Bryan Klendworth hit an RBI ground out to score Hayes for a 1-0 ONU lead.

DSU answered back to tie the game in the bottom second frame.  David Halstead led off the inning with a single, but was forced out at second after Jordan Entrikin hit a fielder's choice.  Andy Lee hit a ground out to advance Entrikin to second bae.  Ryan Schlesser recorded an RBI single to score Entrikin to knot the game at 1-1.

Dakota State added another run in the bottom third inning.  Danny Flahie hit a single with one out.  Nick Serrata recorded a ground out to advance Flahie to second base.  Joe Davis produced an RBI single to score Flahie as DSU earned their first lead of the game at 2-1.

ONU's Klendworth added another RBI in the top fourth inning as he hit a single to tie the game at 2-2.

The Tigers made it 3-2 in the fifth inning after Jackson Batts' RBI single.

Olivet Nazarene extended their lead to 4-2 in the top sixth inning with one run scored.

In the seventh inning, the Tigers exploded for three runs as their lead grew to 7-2.  The Trojans committed two errors in the inning.

Dakota State was unable to convert their scoring opportunities in the bottom seventh as they left two runners on base when the game ended, allowing the Tigers to seal the victory.

Flahie and Schlesser each had two singles for the Trojans.  Davis added a single and an RBI.  Halstead had a single.  Davis and Schlesser each produced an RBI.

Klendworth was 3-for-4 at the plate for ONU.  He had a double, two singles and recorded four RBIs.  Jordan Wanner added two singles.  Batts, Josh Altmann and Hayes each added a hit.

Jordan Sovich (0-4) recorded the loss for DSU.  He worked for five innings and allowed three runs (one unearned) on five hits.  Sovich recorded five strikeouts.  Jamie Jorgensen came in the sixth inning and gave up a run on one hit.  Bryant Westra worked the final two innings, giving up three runs (two unearned) on two hits.

Madison Foster (1-0) pitched a complete game victory for the Tigers.  He allowed two runs on six hits. 

ONU outhit the Trojans 8-6 in the game.  DSU committed four defensive errors compared to the Tigers one defensive error.

DSU left six runners on base.  Olivet Nazarene had five runners left on base.

Game 2:  Dakota State (S.D.) 4, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 3 - FINAL

The Tigers grabbed the first lead of the game in the opening inning of the second game, highlighted by Jordan Wanner's double and Josh Altmann's single.  Hayes hit an RBI ground out to score Wanner to give ONU a 1-0 lead.

Dakota State answered back in the top second frame.  Seth Spears led off the inning with a double.  He advanced to third base caused by ONU's wild pitch.  Entrikin hit an RBI single to score Spears as DSU knotted the game at 1-1.

The Trojans exploded for three runs in the top third inning.  Halstead started the inning with a walk.  Schlesser hit a ground out to advance Halstead to second base.  Spears added a single as Halstead went to third base.  After Entrikin reached on base by a walk, Halstead scored by ONU's balk to give DSU a 2-1 lead (and advanced Spears to third base and Entrikin to second base).

Drew Sweeter recorded an RBI sacrifice to score Spears to extend DSU's lead to 3-1 in the top third inning.  Another ONU wild pitch allowed Entrikin to score as the Trojans' lead grew to 4-1.

The Tigers added a pair of run in the third and fourth innings to trim Trojans' lead to 4-3.

Dakota State left seven runners on bases in the final three innings of the game and could not convert their scoring chances. 

Olivet Nazarene had a runner on first and second base in the bottom seventh inning with two outs.  Hayes hit a fielder's choice and Trojans ended the game by a force out play on second base.

Halstead was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three singles for Dakota State.  Spears added a double, a single and scored twice.  Serrata and Sweeter each had two hits.  Schlesser, Entrikin and Nathan Wieneke each had a hit.  Entrikin and Sweeter each produced an RBI.

Wanner had a double for the Tigers.  Altmann and Batts each added two singles.  Hayes had a hit and recorded two RBIs.  Klendworth, Seth Gorman and Codey Houts each had a single.

Austin Weber (2-1) pitched a complete game for the Trojans.  He allowed three runs on nine hits.  He recorded four strikeouts.

Matt Webber worked for two-plus innings.  He gave up two runs on three hits.  Eric Douglass (0-1) picked up the loss in 4 2/3 innings of relief work.  He allowed two runs on nine hits.  Parker Shelton pitched for 1/3 inning in relief.

DSU outhit the Tigers 12-9 in the game.  The Trojans left 14 runners on base compared to ONU seven runners left on base.

Dakota State conclude their Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational with a doubleheader versus the University of Winnipeg (Canada) Friday evening.  First pitch in the first game of the doubleheader is set for 6 p.m. (Central Standard Time) at the Kino Sports Complex.
