MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Dakota State (S.D.) bounced back in the winning column Friday with a pair of victories at Grand Park as part of the Snowbird Invitational. The Trojans held on to defeat St. Joseph's-Long Island (N.Y.) by the score of 5-4 in the first game. Brittany Hill hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom eight inning to beat Bemidji State (Minn.) – an NCAA Division II school – in a 2-1 thrilling victory.
Dakota State raised their overall record to 7-3. St. Joseph's-Long Island is 2-1 and Bemidji State is 11-5.

After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans earned the first lead of the game in the top second frame. Samantha Mitchell hit a double with one out. A wild pitch by SJNY with two outs advanced Mitchell to third base. Kelli Heiser smashed an RBI double to score Mitchell to give DSU a 1-0 lead.
Rachel Hughes and Elizabeth Rubalcava hit back-to-back doubles with one out as DSU extended their lead to 2-0 in the top sixth inning. After Brittany Hill reached on base by SJNY's defensive error (advancing Rubalcava to third base), Mitchell blast a 3-run home run cap a four-run inning, expanding DSU's lead to 5-0.
St. Joseph's-Long Island broke their scoring drought in the bottom sixth inning with a run scored on three hits. DSU's lead was reduced to 5-1.
SJNY hit a 3-run home run with one out in the bottom seventh inning to cut DSU's lead to 5-4. The Trojans' defense prevented SJNY's late rally, ending the game with a ground out and a fly out.
Mitchell was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Trojans. She had a double and a home run, producing three RBIs. Hughes, Heiser and Rubalcava each added a double. Audrey Lorenz and Lexy Miller each had a single.
St. Jospeh's-Long Island had eight hits in the game.
Shai-Lee Hill (1-0) recorded the victory on the mound for Dakota State. She pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed one run on six hits. Bretton Lien recorded her first save of the season as she worked for 1 2/3 innings in relief. She gave up three runs on two hits.
SJNY left seven runners on base compared to DSU three runners on base.

Nicole Dupay hit a solo home run in the opening inning to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
The Trojans answered back in the third inning to tie the game. Miller led off with a walk. She swiped to second base. Katie Slibowski hit a ground out to advance Miller to second base. A wild pitch committed by BSU scored Miller at home to knot the game at 1-1.
Both teams were unable to score in fourth through seventh innings. Both teams left two runners on base in the seventh inning as the game was extended into extra innings.
International extra-inning rule was in effect as the runner was set on second base when the eighth inning started. The Beavers went three-and-out and left a runner on second base.
With Slibowski on second base when DSU was up-at in the bottom eighth frame, Rubalcava hit a single to advance Slibowski to third base. Brittany Hill hit a game-winning RBI single with no out to score Slibowski as the Trojans recorded a 2-1 thrilling victory.
Slibowski swiped two bases for Dakota State. Miller added a stolen base.
Dupay was 2-for-4 at the plate for Bemidji State with a home run and a single. Kaitlyn Shea, Emily Varner, Courtney O'Conner and Megan Bergeson each had a hit.
Slibowski (1-0) tossed a complete game victory for the Trojans. She allowed a run on four hits. Slibowski struck out four BSU's batters.
Allison Roberts recorded the loss for the Beavers. She pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on eight hits.
DSU outhit BSU 8-6 in the game. Both teams left nine runners on base.
Dakota State concludes their action in the Snowbird Invitational Saturday morning. The Trojans face Philadelphia (Pa.) in a doubleheader, starting at 9:30 a.m. The doubleheader takes place at the Grand Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
