FREMONT, Neb. – Two Dakota State University men's runners participated in the Midland (Neb.) Half-Marathon Saturday. The half-marathon gave the runners their opportunities to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals in full marathon.
To qualify for the NAIA Men's full marathon, runners need to finish with the time between 1 hour, 12 seconds and 1 hour, 14 seconds in the half-marathon race in Fremont.
Michael Hoffman of Dakota State (S.D.) clocked a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 31 seconds to earn a runner-up finish in the half-marathon race. As a result, he qualified for the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships to be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. in May. It will be his second appearance in the NAIA Nationals as he finished 26th in the men's full marathon during his sophomore season (2010).
Taylor Hauge finished fourth in the race. He recorded a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 19 seconds.
Former DSU All-American runner Matt Fideler won the race with a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes and 55 seconds.
Dakota State kicks off their 2014 outdoor track & field season on Saturday, March 29. DSU hosts its own home meet – the Trojan Invitational – at the Trojan Field. The first event is slated to start at 12 p.m.
