DSU FOOTBALL SCHOOL RECORD BOOK

MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University football team have six different records listed in the Trojan Football school record book.  The Trojans broke two new school records and tied two records during the 2013 season.

Josh Licht shattered a new DSU school record book for most average punting yards in a game at South Dakota Mines on Oct. 26.  He averaged a new punt average of 52.0 yards, breaking the previous old record mark with 48.4 yards set by Mark Hurd vs. Wayne State (Neb.) in 1978.

Licht recorded the second most quarterback sacks in a single game.  He had 3.5 quarterback sacks versus Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Oct. 19.  Licht is just 0.5 sacks short of tying the DSU school record for most quarterback sacks in a single game (4.0 sacks set by Paul Naughton vs. Huron, S.D. in 1989).

Dakota State set a new record for team passing completions with 32 at South Dakota Mines on Oct. 26.  The previous old mark was 31 completions, which happened four times – previously set on Oct. 1, 2011 at Concordia (Neb.).

Cole Whisenhunt tied the DSU school record book for most passing completions in a single game with 31 at South Dakota Mines (Oct. 26).  He tied the school record with Brandon Large (at Concordia, Neb. – Oct. 1, 2011 and at Valley City State, N.D. – Sept. 17, 2011) and Daryl Fletcher (1970).

Brendon Waldner recorded five punt returns in a game at Jamestown (N.D.) on Oct. 12, tying the DSU school record for most punt returns in a single game.  He tied with Charlie Flohr, who had five punt returns in 1998.

Perry King accumulated a total of 154 kick-off return yards at Peru State (Neb.) on Aug. 31, which is the second most kick-off returns in a single game.  Tard Smith holds the DSU school record with 165 kick-off return yards vs. Mount Senario (Wis.) in 1993.
