MADISON, S.D. – Presentation (S.D.) rallied back from a pair of four-run deficit over Dakota State (S.D.) Wednesday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball doubleheader at Thue Softball Complex.  The Saints erased an early 4-0 deficit for an 11-5 game one victory and escaped from an 8-4 deficit into a 9-8 second game victory over the Trojans.

Dakota State falls to 7-18 overall record and 3-3 in NSAA conference play.  Presentation improved to 13-14 overall record and won their first-ever NSAA conference doubleheader (2-0 record).

Game 1 – Presentation (S.D.) 11, Dakota State (S.D.) 5 – FINAL    

The Trojans started the game with six straight batters reaching safely on base, racing to a four-run lead.  Erica Belter led off with a walk and swiped to second base.  Katie Slibowski hit a single to advance Belter to third base.  Elizabeth Rubalcava produced an RBI single to score Belter for DSU's first run of the game (1-0 lead).

Brittany Hill reached on base by a walk to set up a bases loaded situation with no outs for DSU.  Kelli Heiser hit a line drive to left field for a 2-RBI double to score Slibowski and Rubalcava as DSU's lead grew to 3-0.  After Mitchell was hit-by-pitch, Lexy Miller recorded an RBI walk with two outs to score Hill as the Trojans raced to a 4-0 lead in the bottom first inning.

Presentation answered back by scoring five runs in the top second inning for their first lead of the game.  After the Saints scored twice caused by DSU's defensive errors, Brenda Botzenhart blast a 3-run home run with two outs to earn a 5-4 PC lead.

The Saints added a run in the top third frame to extend their lead to 6-4.  Hailey Haukeli hit a single with two outs.  Jenae Pantle reached on base by Trojans' defensive miscue and advance Haukeli to second base.  Karyssa Marbet hit an RBI single to score Haukeli to give PC a two-run lead.

The Trojans cut Presentation's lead to 6-5 after one run scored in the bottom fifth inning.  Hill recorded a single, followed by Heiser's walk to advance Hill to second base.  Samantha Mitchell added a single to set up a bases loaded situation with one out for DSU.  Rachel Hughes hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Hill to trim their deficit down to one run.  The Trojans could not add more runs as they left three runners on base when the fifth inning ended.

Presentation exploded for five runs in the top seventh inning for an 11-5 lead, highlighted by Haukeli's 2-run home run.

Dakota State went three-and-out in the bottom seventh inning as the Saints earned their first NSAA conference victory.

Heiser had a double and recorded two RBIs for the Trojans.  Rubalcava and Hill each added two singles.  Belter, Slibowski and Mitchell each had a hit.  Rubalcava, Hughes and Miller each produced an RBI.  Belter swiped one base.

Botzenhart went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two singles and earned four RBIs for the Saints.  Haukeli added a home run, double and single with two RBIs.  Shelby Anderson, Trost, Pantle and Marbet each had two hits.  Sydney Larson, Trose and Marbet each recorded an RBI.

Lori Harshbarger (1-4) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for DSU.  She pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed five unearned runs on seven hits.  Bretton Lien tossed 4 2/3 innings in relief and gave up five runs (one unearned) on seven hits.  Ellie Kristensen worked the final two outs of the top seventh inning, giving up a run on two hits.

Marbet (6-6) tossed a complete game victory for PC.  She allowed five runs on eight hits.  Marbet struck out seven DSU's batters.

Presentation outhit Dakota State 16-8 in the game.  Both teams left nine runners on base.

Game 2 – Presentation (S.D.) 9, Dakota State (S.D.) 8 – FINAL   

DSU earned their first lead of the game in the opening inning.  Belter led off the Trojans with a single.  Stephanie Sandoval hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Belter to second base.  Hill recorded an RBI single to score Belter to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Presentation committed two defensive errors and gave up two walks in the bottom second frame to allow DSU score three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0.

The Saints scored its first run of the game in the top third inning after the Trojans committed a defensive error.  Botzenhart added an RBI ground out to cut PC's deficit to 4-2.  Anderson reached on base with two outs.  Kassidy Rauch smashed a 2-run home run as the Saints knotted the game at 4-4.

Dakota State regained their lead with a run scored in the bottom third.  Mitchell led off with a walk and advanced to second base by a stolen base.  Heiser added a walk.  Lynnie Angle reached on base by PC's defensive error with one out and advanced Mitchell to third base and Heiser to second base.  Miller recorded an RBI walk to score Mitchell for DSU's 5-4 lead.

The Trojans hit four doubles in the bottom fourth inning to produce three runs, expanding their lead to four runs. Rubalcava led off the inning with a double.  Hill, Heiser and Hughes each hit an RBI double as Dakota State's lead grew to 8-4.

PC rallied back to score five runs in the final inning to earn their lead away from the Trojans.  Larson was hit-by-pitch with one out.  Anderson hit a single to advance Larson to third base.  Botzenhart hit an RBI single to score Larson as the Saints cut DSU's lead to 8-5.

Presentation added a run caused by DSU's defensive error to reduce their deficit to 8-6.  With runners on third and second bases with one out, Jessie Ihly hit a 2-RBI double to score Botzenhart and Rauch to tie the game at 8-8.

Trost recorded an RBI single to score Ihly as the Saints regain their lead at 9-8 with one out in the top seventh frame.

Dakota State was unable to make a comeback in the bottom seventh inning as they left one runner on base when the game ended.

Hill was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, single and produced two RBIs for the Trojans.  Belter added two singles.  Heiser, Hughes and Rubalcava each recorded a double and an RBI.  Miller had two RBIs.  Sandoval recorded an RBI.  Mitchell swiped one base.

Trose was 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles for the Saints.  Ihly and Anderson each had two hits.  Botzenhart and Racuh each added a hit and two RBIs. 

Hughes (3-5) suffered the loss as she pitched 6 1/3 innings for Dakota State.  She gave up nine runs (six unearned) on nine hits.  Shai-Lee Hill retired the last two batters of the seventh inning.

Danielle Naumann started the game for Presentation.  She worked for 4 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs (three unearned) on seven hits.  Pantle (3-1) recorded the victory as she tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

PC had nine hits in the game compared to the Trojans seven hits.  DSU committed nine defensive errors, while the Saints had three defensive errors.

The Trojans left 10 runners on base.  The Saints left five runners on base.

Dakota State will step aside from their NSAA conference play on Friday afternoon.  The Trojans look to bounce back in the winning column as they host their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.).  First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. at Thue Softball Complex as DSU continues their 20-game home stand.
