MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State will be sending four men's runners to the 105th Annual Drake Relays, which feature numerous schools and runners from all levels. The Drake Relays kick off on Wednesday, April 23 and continues through April 27 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Seth Boomsma, Spencer Carlson, Trevor Jacobsen and D'Artist Williams will be making an appearance in the Drake Relays. It will be the second straight appearance at the Drake Relays for Boomsma and Williams.
Williams, Carlson, Jacobsen and Boomsma will team up for the Trojans' 4 x 100-meter relay on Friday morning at 9:17 a.m. DSU is slated to compete in the second heat along with North Central (Ill.-NCAA Division II), Wisconsin-Stevens Point (NCAA Division III), Wisconsin-Platteville (NCAA Division III), Emporia State (Kan.-NCAA Division II), Oklahoma Baptist (NAIA), Dubuque (Iowa-NCAA Division III) and Augustana (S.D.-NCAA Division II). A total of 32 relay teams are vying for a spot in the finals on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Boomsma will run in the men's 100-meter dash prelims, which feature a total of 30 runners, on Friday afternoon at 12:33 p.m. He is scheduled to compete in the fourth heat with Tyler Askew and Eric Harris of Purdue (Ind.-NCAA Division I), Johnathan Farquarshon of Abilene Christian (Texas-NCAA Division II), Trayvon Bromell of Baylor (Texas-NCAA Division I), Jerrell Hancock of Minnesota State-Mankato (NCAA Division II) and Alex Koenen of Wisconsin-La Crosse (NCAA Division III). The men's 100-meter finals is scheduled for Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
Boomsma was in the men's 100-meter dash finals in last year's Drake Relays. He finished seventh in the finals with an automatic NAIA national qualifying time of 10.48 seconds, finishing ahead of a runner from NCAA Division I Georgia.
