JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team concluded their nine-game stretch on the road Sunday. The Trojans faced Jamestown at the Jack Brown Stadium. DSU used a seven-run sixth inning to defeat the Jimmies in the first game 12-8. The Trojans held on to defeat Jamestown in the second game 2-0 to earn a split with the Jimmies in a four-game series.

Dakota State raised their overall record to 20-16 and 10-6 in the DAC conference. Jamestown dropped to 30-9 overall and 10-6 in the conference. After the completion of Sunday's games, the Trojans are in a three-way tie for second place with Mayville State and Jamestown in the DAC conference. Dickinson State is in first place in the DAC with an 11-5 conference record.

Game One

Josh Tiede hit a solo home run, his fifth home run of the season, in the opening inning to give the Trojans' 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kyle Montgomery hit an RBI single to score Max Boe for the Jimmies to tie the game at 1-1. Nick Meehan added an RBI sacrifice fly to score Montgomery to give JC 2-1 lead.

Bob Olson and Donald Strand recorded back-to-back singles to open up the third inning for Dakota State. Olson scored a run caused by Jimmie Brennen Grubb's wild throw to tie the game at 2-2. Hunt recorded a bunt single and the same time, Strand gave the Trojans' 3-2 lead caused by Jimmies' defensive error from Hunt's bunt single while Hunt rounded the base to third. Brian White reached on a walk. White was picked off while Hunt stole for home to extend DSU's lead to 4-2.

Jamestown scored five times in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain their lead. Boe hit a single through the second base hole to open the inning for JC. Boe advanced to third by a wild throw from Trojan Lincoln Gassman during the pickoff attempt. Tim Penner hit an RBI single to score Boe to trim DSU's lead to 4-3. Penner scored on a wild pitch by Gassman to tie the game at 4-4. Griffin Sweazey added a three-run home run to give the Jimmies 7-4 lead.

With bases loaded and one out situation for DSU in the top of the fifth inning, Chance Hargrove hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Hunt to cut the deficit to 7-5.

Dakota State exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to regain their lead. Jose Figueroa reached on base by JC defensive error. Zane Roduner was hit-by-pitch and advanced Chaz Palmer, courtesy runner for Figueroa, to second base. Bob Olson hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Palmer to third and Roduner to second base. Palmer scored by Grubb's wild pitch and Strand recorded an RBI single to score Roduner to tie the game at 7-7. Ryan Bouricer, pinch hitter for White, hit an RBI single to score Strand as the Trojans regained their lead at 8-7. With bases loaded and one out situation, Hargrove was hit-by-pitch and scored Hunt to extend the Trojans' lead to 9-7. Garrett Gassman recorded an RBI fielder's choice to score White (running for Bouricer) as DSU expanded their lead to 10-7. Figueora added an RBI single to score Tiede as the Trojans' lead grew to 11-7. Roduner hit an RBI single to right field to score Garrett Gassman to put DSU up 12-7.

Jamestown failed to score with bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sweazey hit an RBI double to score Erik Church to cut the Trojans' lead to 12-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Jimmies were unable to convert their scoring opportunities in the final inning with runners on third and first bases.

Tiede went perfect behind the plate for the Trojans. He went 2-for-2 with a home run, a single, two runs scored, an RBI and walked three times. Strand and Hunt each had two singles. White, Bourcier, Figeuora, Roduner and Olson each had a single. Olson, Strand and Hunt each recorded one stolen base.

For Jamestown, Sweazy went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, a run scored and recorded four RBIs. Boe was 4-for-5 with a double, three single and scored twice. Montgomery added three singles.

Jamestown left 12 runners on base. Dakota State has six runners left on base.

Lincoln Gassman (5-3) recorded the win for DSU. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs (two unearned) on 12 hits. He struck out seven batters. Nick Mutz recorded his seventh save of the season. He closed the game in 2 2/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits. He struck out six batters.

Dakota State handed JC's Grubb his first pitching loss this season. He tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs (four unearned) on seven hits. Marcus Hudson came in relief for 1/3 inning. He gave up three runs on two hits. Paul Roerrs closed the game in 3 1/3 innings. He allowed two hits and struck out three batters.

Game Two

The second game featured a pitching duel between DSU's Jared Donahue and JC's Ryan Lucero.

White hit a solo home run, his fourth home run of the season, in the top of the first inning to give DSU a 1-0 lead.

Penner and Nick Meehan opened with back-to-back walks for Jamestown in the bottom of the third inning. Woelber was hit-by-pitch to set up a bases loaded and one out situation. Sweazy was hit into double play as the Jimmies failed to convert their scoring opportunity.

Bouricer hit a double to right field in the top of the fifth inning. Then, Roduner recorded an RBI single to score Palmer, pinch runner for Bouricer, to extend the Trojans' lead to 2-0.

With runners on second and first bases with one out for Jamestown in the final inning, the Trojans closed the game with a double play.

White went 1-for-2 with a home run, an RBI and swiped one base for Dakota State. Bouricer added a double. Derek Grundmann and Roduner each had a single.

Sweazy went 2-for-3 with a double for Jamestown. Donny MacQuarrie, Ramirez and Montgomery each had a single.

Donahue (4-2) pitched a complete game victory for DSU. He allowed no runs on six hits. He struck out seven batters to amass his total strikeouts to 82.

Lucreno (4-2) suffered the loss for the Jimmies. He tossed a complete game and gave up two runs on four hits. He struck out seven batters.

Jamestown left eight runners on base. DSU had three runners left on base.

Dakota State returns home for their final five regular season games, starting on Wednesday. The Trojans will host NCAA Division II Northern State in a non-conference doubleheader at the Flynn Field. The first game is set at 2 p.m.
