YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State had seven individuals earning personal records Tuesday afternoon at the Mount Marty (S.D.) Twilight outdoor track & field meet at Williams Field on the campus of Yankton High School. The Trojans competed with schools from the Great Plains Athletic Conference and several NCAA schools.
Kylie Martin recorded personal records in the women's shot put and discus throw for DSU. She threw a measurement of 37 feet and 3 inches to place 10th in the shot put and 104 feet, 7 inches for a 23rd-place finish in discus.
Shayna Dwyer added a personal record in the women's discus throw with a measurement of 112 feet and 2 inches, earning a 19th-place finish.
Also throwing in the women's shot put are: Clara Schild with a 12th place finish (36 feet, 2.75 inches, Dwyer 14th place (34 feet, 8.5 inches), Ashley Currey 16th place (34 feet, 7.5 inches) and Kelci Viesselman 18th place (32 feet, 11.25 inches).
Viesselman earned an 11th-place finish in the women's discus throw with a measurement of 122 feet and 2 inches. Currey was 16th with a throw measurement of 113 feet and 9 inches. Schild finished 24th (93 feet, 4 inches).
Currey placed 14th in the women's hammer throw (135 feet, 10 inches). Dwyer added a 17th-place finish with a measurement of 127 feet, 8 inches.
Dwyer recorded a measurement of 88 feet, 9 inches for a 19th place finish in women's javelin throw. Currey finished 26th with a measurement of 80 feet, 5 inches. It was both Dwyer and Currey first appearance in the javelin throw this season.
Marty Hargrove ran a personal best time of 23.28 seconds to finish 13th in the men's 200-meter dash. He was fourth in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.24 seconds. David Sotir was 22nd with a time of 24.13 seconds.
Sotir clocked a time of 16.22 seconds to finish seventh in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
A pair of Trojan men's distance runners set a new personal record in the 800-meters race. Mark Moeller, who was named to first-ever North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week, clocked a time of 1:58.09 to finish sixth in the race. Jared Sutton added a personal best time of 2:00.59 to finish 16th in the race. Other DSU runners that competed in the 800-meter dash are: Victoria Sopko (2:32.18 – women's – 19th place) and Claudio Tejada 2:03.71 (28th – men's).
Another pair of DSU men's distance runners earned personal records in the 1500-meter run. Michael Hoffman was ninth in four minutes and 7.45 seconds. Taylor Hauge was 20th with a time of 4:19.59. Other Trojan runners that ran in the 1500-meters race are: Caleb Hemphill (4:31.92 – 26th place) and Michael Carson (4:35.56 – 27th place).
Ryan Gimbel earned a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put. He threw a measurement of 45 feet and 9.75 inches.
Gimbel produced a season-best 142 feet and 3 inches to place ninth in the men's hammer throw. Trevor Van Tilburg was 12th with a measurement of 123 feet and 10 inches.
Gimbel added a 13th-place finish in the men's discus throw, recording a measurement of 130 feet. Van Tilburg finished 18th (117 feet, 10 inches).
In the men's 400-meter dash, Jared Truman ran a time of 53.82 seconds to finish 22nd.
Sara Friesen finished 26th in the women's 200-meter dash in 29.12 seconds.
Tejada, Moeller, Sutton and Truman teamed up for the Trojans' 4 x 400-meter relay. They were the top team in the first heat with a time of 3:30.67 and finished seventh overall in the event.
Dakota State will be sending four men's runners to the 105th Annual Drake Relays on Friday. Seth Boomsma, Spencer Carlson, Trevor Jacobsen and D'Artist Williams will kick off at 9:17 a.m. for the men's 4 x 100-meter relay. Boomsma will also run in the men's 100-meter dash on Friday afternoon. The Drake Relays take place at the Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Trojans return back to full action on next Friday (May 2) and Saturday (May 3) as they compete in the annual Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D.
