ABERDEEN, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) slammed three home runs to cruise past Presentation (S.D.) 14-6 in the first game of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball conference doubleheader at Manor Park.  The Saints answered back by racing to a 10-0 lead through two innings, defeating DSU 13-5 in five innings to earn a doubleheader split.

Dakota State is 10-28 overall record and 5-7 NSAA conference record after today's doubleheader split.  Presentation's overall record stands at 19-22 and 7-5 in NSAA conference play.

Game 1 – Dakota State (S.D.) 14, Presentation (S.D.) 6 – FINAL        

PC committed a defensive error to allow DSU's Erica Belter reach on base to open the game.  Lexy Miller produced a sacrifice bunt to advance Belter to second base.  Elizabeth Rubalcava reached on base by a walk, followed by Brittany Hill single to set up a bases loaded situation for the Trojans.  Samantha Mitchell hit an RBI single to score Belter to give Dakota State their first lead of the game at 1-0.

Shai-Lee Hill added an RBI walk with two outs to score Rubalcava, extending DSU's lead to 2-0 in the first inning.

The Saints answered with one run in the bottom half of the first inning after PC earned three singles by Shelby Anderson, Kassidy Rauch and Jessie Ihly.  Ihly recorded an RBI single to score Anderson to cut PC's deficit to 2-1.

Brittany Hill blast a 3-run home run with two outs in the top second inning to make it 5-1 in favor of the Trojans.  It was her fourth home run this season and her 13th career home run at Dakota State.

Presentation scored a run to cut DSU's lead to 5-2 with after Anderson's RBI single to score Jaycee Herman, who led off the bottom fourth with a single.

The Trojans made it 6-2 in the top fifth frame when Shai-Lee Hill drove in Mitchell.  Mitchell started the fifth with a double.

Dakota State scored four runs in the top sixth inning, expanding their lead by eight runs.  Belter kicked off the sixth with a single, followed by Miller's sacrifice bunt to advance Belter to second base.  Rubalcava reached on base caused by PC's defensive miscue, allowing Belter to score for 7-2 DSU lead.

Brittany Hill hit a single with one out in the sixth inning and advanced Rubalcava to third base.  Mitchell smashed a 3-run home run – her 11th home run this season – as the Trojans stretch their lead to 10-2.

PC scored twice from DSU's defensive errors in the bottom sixth frame to reduce their deficit to 10-4.  Ihly added an RBI ground out to cut Trojans' lead to 10-5.

With bases loaded and one out in the top seventh inning, Rubalcava drilled a grand slam to widen DSU's lead to 14-5.  It was her first collegiate career home run at Dakota State.

Sydney Larson recorded an RBI single for the Saints in the bottom seventh, but the Trojans secured the game as PC left two runners on base.  The victory also ended Trojans' five-game losing skid.

Brittany Hill was 4-for-5 at the plate, including a 3-run home run and three singles with three RBIs for Dakota State.  Mitchell added a 3-run home run, double and single and produced four RBIs.  Rubalcava had a grand slam, recorded two walks and earned a game-high five RBIs.  She scored four runs.  Shai-Lee Hill, Belter and Miller each had two hits.  Stephanie Sandoval recorded a single.

Belter scored three times for the Trojans.  Brittany Hill and Mitchell each added two runs.  Belter, Lori Harshbarger and Miller each swiped one base.

Herman and Anderson each registered three hits for Presentation.  Ihly added a double, single and produced two RBIs.  Larson and Rauch each recorded a single and an RBI.  Brenda Botzenhart had a hit and reached on base by a walk two times. 

Rachel Hughes (5-6) tossed a complete game victory on the mound for DSU.  She allowed six runs (two unearned) on 12 hits.  Hughes struck out six PC's batters.

Karyssa Marbet (9-11) picked up the loss for the Saints.  She worked for 6 1/3 innings and gave up 14 runs (three unearned) on 14 hits.  Danielle Naumann pitched the final two outs in the top seventh inning in relief, giving up a hit.

DSU out PC 15-12 in the game.  The Trojans committed four defensive errors compared to the Saints three defensive errors.

Presentation left 13 runners on base.  Dakota State had six runners left on base.

Game 2 – Presentation (S.D.) 13, Dakota State (S.D.) 5 – FINAL/5 innings   

The Saints raced to ten-run led in the first two innings and cruised past the Trojans 13-5 in five innings.

Presentation set up a bases loaded with one out in the opening inning.  Ihly produced a two-RBI single to give PC a 2-0 early lead.  The Saints added two more runs for a 4-0 lead by Hailey Haukeli's RBI ground out and DSU's passed ball.

The Saints exploded for six runs on seven hits in the bottom second frame.  Hannah Phillips led off with a single and swiped to second base.  Larson hit an RBI double to score Phillips to increase PC's lead to 5-0.  Botzenhart added an RBI single to score Larson for 6-0 Saints lead.

Rauch ripped a triple to score Botzenhart to extend PC's lead to 7-0 in the bottom second.  The Saints continued their scoring run with Ihly's 2-run home run to widen their lead to 9-0.  Herman added an RBI double to score Haukeli to expand Presentation's lead to 10-0, who also had a double in the same inning.

The Trojans broke their scoring drought in the top half of the third inning with three runs, highlighted by four consecutive singles with one out.  Lynnie Angle, who came in for Katie Slibowski, reached on base by PC's defensive error.  Miller hit a single to advance Angle to second base.

Rubalcava, Brittany Hill and Mitchell each hit an RBI single as Trojans trimmed Saints' lead to 10-3 in the top third.

Presentation answered back with three runs scored in the bottom half of the third inning.  Botzenhart had an RBI single and Haukeli added a 2-RBI double to stretch PC's lead to 13-3.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Dakota State scored twice on five singles.  Miller led off the inning with a bunt single.  She advanced to second on a stolen base with one out.  Brittany Hill hit a single to advance Miller to second base.

Mitchell recorded an RBI single to score Miller as DSU reduced their deficit to 13-4 in the fifth inning.  Sandoval hit a single to set up a bases loaded with two outs situation for the Trojans.  Kelli Heiser, pinch hitter for Shai-Lee Hill, hit an RBI single to score Brittany Hill to cut PC's lead to 13-5.

The Saints prevented the Trojans to score more runs in the fifth inning, securing the victory in five-inning mercy rule.  DSU left three runners on base when the game ended.

Miller was perfect at the place, going 3-for-3 with three singles and scored twice for DSU.  She swiped one base.  Mitchell added two singles and produced two RBIs.  Brittany Hill had two hits and an RBI.  Rubalcava and Heiser each had a single and an RBI.  Hughes and Sandoval each recorded a single.

Ihly had a home run and single with four RBIs for Presentation.  Haukeli added two doubles and three RBIs.  Larson and Botzenhart each had two hits.  Rauch recorded a triple and an RBI.  Herman had a double and an RBI.  Naumann and Phillips each had a hit.

Ihly, Phillips and Haukeli each recorded a stolen base for the Saints.

Ellie Kristensen (3-8) recorded the loss after 1 1/3 innings of work for Dakota State.  She gave up six runs (one unearned) on four hits.  Harshbarger came in and worked for 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits.  Slibowski pitched two innings in relief and gave up three runs on three hits.

Naumann (5-3) earned a complete game victory for Presentation.  She allowed five runs on 11 hits.

PC had 12 hits in the game, with six of those hits as extra-base hits (four doubles, a triple and home run).  DSU had 11 singles recorded.

The Trojans left seven runners on base compared to the Saints three runners left on base.

Dakota State play their NSAA Softball four-game series finale at Valley City State (N.D.) this weekend.  The Trojans and Vikings kick off with a doubleheader at VCSU Softball Complex Saturday at 1 p.m.  Presentation travels to Jamestown, N.D. for their NSAA Softball four-game series finale versus Jamestown at McElroy Park, starting with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
