MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has selected Ryan Gimbel of Dakota State (S.D.) in the fourth edition of the Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors. He was selected as NSAA Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week after his performances at the 89th Annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays.
Gimbel continued to dominate the DSU school record book in the men's hammer throw. On Friday, May 2, he broke a new DSU school record book as he threw a measurement of 144 feet, 3 inches to place 11th in the event. He broke his previous old DSU record of 142 feet, 10 inches set in 2013.
Gimbel added a 21st-place finish in the discus throw with a measurement of 122 feet.
On Saturday, May 3, he was 12th in the men's shot put (41 feet, 10.5 inches).
Ryan is the son of Larry and Theresa Gimbel of Hill City, S.D. He is a senior Business Education major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State heads to Valley City, N.D. on Friday as they compete in the North Star Athletic Association conference meet. It will be their final regular-season meet of the 2014 outdoor track & field season as they compete for their opportunities to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The national meet takes place in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 21-23.
