NSAA PRESS RELEASE

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.)'s starting pitcher Zac Smith was listed on the first-ever North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Baseball All-Conference First-team, announced Tuesday.  The Trojans also had two players named to the NSAA All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The All-Conference teams and postseason awards were voted by the league coaches.  This year's North Star All-Conference team consists of 17-member on the first-team and two members from each NSAA school on the Honorable Mention team.

Smith boasts an earned run average of 1.63 to lead the Trojans.  He holds a 4-1 pitching record in 11 appearances, starting in nine games this season.  Smith gave up 19 runs (9 unearned runs) in a total of 55 1/3 innings pitched.  He allowed 53 hits and held the opponents' batting average to .255.  He struck out a total of 29 batters and only gave up 12 walks.

According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website, Smith ranks eighth in the nation in total earned runs allowed (10).  He is 16th in the nation in ERA (1.63) and 24th in total runs allowed (19).  He also ranks 12th in total walks allowed (12).

Zac is the son of Jeff and Sue Smith of Summerset, S.D.  He is a junior Education major at Dakota State University.

Danny Flahie and Joe Davis were named to the NSAA Baseball All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Flahie, who played second base this season for the Trojans, produced a batting average of .310 by going 58-for-187 at the plate.  He had nine doubles, five triples and a home run with a slugging percentage of .428.  He scored 25 runs.

Flahie broke the DSU school record for most triples in a single season with five.  His five triples ranks 20th-most in the nation.  He is 34th in the nation in triples per game (0.1).  He currently tied the school record for most career triples with six (Chaz Palmer from 2010-13).

Danny is the son of John and Sandy Flahie of Moab, Utah.  He is a senior Exercise Science major at DSU.

Designated hitter Davis led the Trojans with 63 hits and drove in 35 runs for Dakota State this season.  He recorded a batting average of .354 (178 plate appearances) and a slugging percentage of .455.  Davis registered 12 doubles, two home runs and scored 25 times.  He had 81 total bases.

Joe is the son of Steve and Della Davis of Aptos, Calif.  He is a junior Business Finance major at Dakota State University.

DSU completed their 2014 season with an overall record of 21-28, 10-10 in the NSAA/Frontier conference play and 6-10 in NSAA conference play.
