GULF SHORES, Ala. – Michael Hoffman ran his final collegiate career meet early Saturday morning in the full men's marathon at the 63rd Annual Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship meet. He ended his stellar collegiate career as he earned an NAIA All-American status by placing seventh in the race.
Hoffman clocked a time of 2 hours, 39 minutes and 57.60 seconds in the full men's marathon meet. A total of 29 runners were able to complete the race. Arya Bahreini of Oklahoma City captured the men's marathon title with a time of 2:29:06.80.
It was his first NAIA All-American status at Dakota State, making it two years in a row with an All-American runner in the men's full marathon (Nic Penning with a second place finish in 2013).
Hoffman had an impressive senior season as he won the North Star Athletic Association/Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country individual champion last November, qualifying for the NAIA Cross Country national meet. He also captured the men's 10,000-meter run at the NSAA Individual meet on May 9 in Valley City, N.D.
Michael, a four-time NSAA Men's Cross Country runner-of-the-week, is the son of Tim and Renae Hoffman of Beresford, S.D. He is a senior Computer Network Security major at Dakota State University.
The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships ended the DSU track season.
