MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team hosted Minot State in a four-game DAC series at the Flynn Field Saturday and Sunday. The Trojans swept the Beavers on Saturday 8-7 (10 innings) and 10-2. On Sunday, Minot State won game one 13-9 and the Trojans took the final game of the series 6-4.
The Trojans raised their overall record to 16-11 and continue their hot start in the DAC conference with a 7-1 record. DSU has won 10 games in the last 11 games. Minot State dropped their overall record to 13-20 and 1-7 in the conference.
After the completion of Sundays DAC Baseball games, the Trojans are currently holding a one-game lead over Dickinson State for first place.
Dakota State concluded their nine-game home stand with an 8-1 record.
DSU baseball head coach Dean Berry recorded his 100th career coaching victory (softball and baseball combined) on Saturday.
Game One - Box Score
Dakota State 8, Minot State 7 (10 innings)
DSU's Chance Hargrove hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Trojans a 3-0 early lead. It was Hargrove's fifth home run this season.
Zane Roduner added an RBI single to score Hargrove in the bottom of the third inning to give DSU a 4-0 lead. Bob Olson hit an RBI double to score Derek Grundmann to extend the lead to 5-0.
Minot State broke up their scoring drought in the top of the seventh inning. Mitch Olson hit a two-run home run with two outs to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Pinch hitter Garrett Gassman hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 6-2 Trojans lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, Eli Mihalick hit an 2-RBI single to score Michael O'Dwyer and Scott Peters for Minot State to reduce their deficit to 6-4. Andrew Lochhead hit a RBI single to score Mitch Olson and Michael Mesh hit a RBI single to score Mihalick to tie the game at six.
Dakota State went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Beavers forced the game into extra innings.
A wild pitch by Trojan Nick Mutz scored pinch runner Kory Houston for Minot States first lead of the game, 7-6 in the top of the 10th inning.
Josh Tiede opened the bottom of the 10th inning with a single for DSU. Hargrove reached on base by walk. A sacrifice bunt by Grundmann advanced Tiede to third base and Hargrove to second base. Roduner was given an intentional walk to put the Trojans in a bases loaded situation. Bob Olson hit an 2-RBI single to score Tiede and Donald Strand, pinch runner for Hargrove, for the Trojans' 8-7 victory.
Bob Olson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Dakota State. Tiede and Ryan Steffensen each had two singles. Hargrove had three RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. Grundmann, Roduner and Chad Hunt each added a single.
For Minot State, Mihalick went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Mitch Olson added two RBIs. Jordan Gilmour had a double. O'Dwyer went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Jared Donahue pitched 7 1/3 strong innings for Dakota State. He allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out 12 batters for the second-straight time. Mutz (4-1) recorded the win for the Trojans. He tossed 2 2/3 innings in relief and gave up five runs (two unearned) on five hits and struck out four batters.
Paul Thompson tossed seven innings for the Beavers. He gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out four batters. Jamin Heller pitched one inning in relief and gave up one run on one hit. Cody Nevins suffered the loss for Minot State. He pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits.
Both teams left seven runners on base.

Hargrove hit a RBI sacrifice fly to score Brian White to score the first run of the game for Dakota State in the bottom of the first inning.
The Trojans added five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Chad Hunt hit a single and swiped base twice in the inning. Strand hit a RBI single to score Hunt. Strand added another stolen base and White hit an RBI double to score Strand. Tiede added a two-run home run to put the Trojans up 6-0.
Minot State's Mitch Olson hit an 2-RBI double to score Kerry Boon and Peters to cut the deficit to 6-2 in the top of the fourth inning.
Jose Figueroa hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to put DSU up 8-2.
The Trojans added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chaz Palmer, courtesy runner for Max Garza, scored by a passed ball by Peters. Gassman hit an RBI double to score Hargrove for the Trojans' 10-2 final score.
Figueroa went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored for Dakota State. Strand went perfect behind the plate with two singles, a walk and two runs scored. Garrett Gassman went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Roduner added two singles. Hargrove and White each had a double. Hunt and White each recorded two stolen bases.
Peters went 2-for-2 for Minot State. Mitch Olson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Jerod Burleson (3-2) pitched the complete game win for Dakota State. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three batters.
Denver Wik (2-4) suffered the loss for the Beavers. He tossed two innings and gave up six runs on five hits. Clay Kallias pitched four innings in relief. He allowed four runs on seven hits.

Beaver Mihalick hit an RBI single to score Caleb Heilman (courtesy runner for Peters) to score the first run of the game in the top of the second inning.
Roduner hit a two-run home run to overtake the lead in the bottom of the second inning. White added an RBI single to score Bob Olson. Hunt added a double to advance White to third. Hargrove hit an RBI single to score White. Hunt added a run for the Trojans after a pickoff attempt by Hargrove and extended the Trojans' lead to 5-1.
O'Dwyer hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to reduce Dakota States lead to 5-2.
With two outs and base-loaded situation in the top of the sixth inning, Mitch Olson hit a grand slam as Minot State regained their lead, 6-5.
White recorded an RBI single to score Bob Olson in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Trojans tied the game at six runs apiece.
Minot State added four runs in the top of the seventh inning to break up the tie. Dakota State scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Beavers added three runs combined in the final two innings for a 13-9 victory over the Trojans. Minot State snapped the Trojans nine-game winning streak.
White went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Trojans. Hunt and Hargrove each had a double and a single. Strand was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Roduner had three RBIs. Grundmann, Figueroa, Garrett Gassman and Bob Olson each had a single.
The Trojans had seven stolen bases compared to the Beavers one. White and Hunt each swiped base twice. Roduner, Palmer and Strand each had one stolen base.
Mitch Olson was 4-for-5 with a home run, double and recorded seven RBIs for Minot State. Mesh and Boon each went 2-for-5. Boon and Heilman each recorded three runs.
Lincoln Gassman (4-2) suffered the loss for the Trojans. He tossed 6 1/3 innings and gave up 10 runs (one unearned) on 10 hits. Samuel Lopez pitched 2/3 innings in relief. Nick Bird tossed the final two innings and gave up three runs (two unearned) on four hits.
Anthony Friesen started the game for Minot State. He went five innings and allowed six runs (one unearned) on six hits. Brody Pinkerton (1-2) recorded the win. He tossed 1 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits. Cody Nevins notched his sixth save of the season. He shut down the Trojans in the final 2 2/3 innings of the game and allowed two hits. Nevins struck out four batters.

Dakota State 6, Minot State 4
Minot State scored their first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Peters recorded a RBI walk to score Mesh.
Dakota State rallied to tie the game at one in the bottom of the second inning. Hargrove scored from a wild pitch from Beaver Cole Stober.
Peters hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning as Minot State regained their lead to 3-1.
Tiede hit a double in the bottom of the third inning to score Hunt to cut the Beavers lead to 3-2. Garrett Gassman hit an RBI single to score Tiede to tie the game at three. Garrett Gassman added a run by a wild pitch by Stober for a Trojans 4-3 lead.
Steffensen recorded his first collegiate home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend DSUs lead to 5-3.
Gilmour hit an RBI single to score Mihalick in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Trojans lead to 5-4.
Roduner hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Trojans held on to win.
Roduner was perfect behind the plate and went 3-for-3 for the Trojans. Steffensen was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Tiede and Garrett Gassman each added an RBI.
For Minot State, Peters went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Nolan Jago went 2-for-3. Gilmour, Mesh and Andrew Lochhead each had a single.
Seth Erdmann started the game for the Trojans. He tossed two innings and allowed one run on two hits. Josh Caven (1-0) recorded the victory. He pitched two innings and gave up two runs on two hits. Mutz made his fourth save of the season for the Trojans. He closed the game in three innings and allowed one run on two hits and struck out four batters.
Stober (1-1) took the loss for the Beavers. He allowed six runs (two unearned) on seven hits and struck out seven batters. Bryan Krahler tossed the final 2/3 innings in relief.
The Trojans will hit the road on Wednesday for a non-conference game. DSU will face their in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan in a nine-inning game at the Caldwell Park in Mitchell, S.D. First pitch is slated at 3 p.m.
