KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 1,290 athletic programs have been named 2013-14 NAIA Scholar-Teams. Dakota State had eight programs being recognized as the NAIA Scholar Team award.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
The DSU volleyball and women's track & field (indoor & outdoor) programs gained their fifth straight NAIA Scholar Team honor since the 2009-10 academic year. The Lady T's basketball team earned the top grade point average of 3.47, receiving this prestigious honor for the fourth consecutive year.
The Trojan women's cross country, men's cross country, men's indoor track & field and men's outdoor track & field programs also earned the NAIA Scholar Team award.
Dakota State led the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference with eight programs listed on the NAIA Scholar Team, followed by Jamestown (N.D.) with seven programs, Presentation (S.D.) five and Valley City State (N.D.) three.
The eight Dakota State athletic programs that received the academic team award are:
