MADISON, S.D. – Senior Michael Hoffman of Dakota State (S.D.) was tabbed as the first North Star Athletic Association Cross Country men's runner of the week, announced Monday.
Hoffman, coming back for his senior year after taking his medical red-shirt (injury) last season, finished fourth in the annual Herb Blakely Invitational on Sept. 14 at the Madison Country Club. The 8K race began with a brief downpour rain while Hoffman jumped to the lead for the majority of the race.
Hoffman finished fourth in the 74-runner field with a time of 26 minutes and 39 seconds. He was just 16 seconds off from his personal 8K best time (26 minutes and 23 seconds set in 2011 Association of Independent Institutions Cross Country conference meet).
Michael is the son of Tim and Renae Hoffman of Beresford, S.D. He majors in Computer Network Security at Dakota State University.
Dakota State runners will take the week off before their next meet. The Trojans will compete in the annual Roy Griak Invitational that features numerous runners from the Midwest region. The meet, hosted by the University of Minnesota, takes place in St. Paul, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
