MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University men's basketball led for the majority of the game Tuesday evening at DSU Fieldhouse before Dordt (Iowa) made a late surge.  The Defenders outscored the Trojans 7-2 in the final 1:28 of the game to earn a 90-85 victory.

Dakota State dropped their overall record to 1-2.  Dordt, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, remained undefeated in three games.

At 4-4, the Trojans roared with a 14-4 scoring run to earn an 18-8 lead with fourteen minutes and 51 seconds left in the first half. 

Dordt would rally back to tie the game at 29-29 with 6:46 remaining before intermission.

At 33-33, the Trojans closed the first-half with a 13-6 scoring run.  Brendon Boomsma hit a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give DSU a 46-39 halftime lead.

Dakota State shot a blazing 58.6 percent from the field by making 17 field goals in 29 attempts in the first twenty minutes of the game.  Dordt was 12-for-26 from the field (46.2 percent).  The Trojans drained five 3-pointers in 13 attempts, while the Defenders only made a 3-pointer in six tries.

DSU kicked off the second half with a 4-0 run to earn the biggest lead of the game at 50-39 with 18:39 left to play.

DC trimmed Trojans' lead to one point at 58-57 with 13:15 remaining in the game, but the Trojans went on another scoring run.  Dakota State scored eight straight points to grab a nine-point lead at 66-57 with 9:44 left.

Trailing 75-66 with 4:42 left, the Defenders stormed back in the game by using a 17-8 scoring run to tie the game at 83-83 with 1:28 left.  

After a 3-pointer miss by the Trojans, Tyler Wolterstorff completed a 3-point play to give DC an 86-83 lead with less than 30 seconds to play. 

Another 3-pointer shot miss by DSU, the Defenders added a pair of free-throws by Nathan Rindels to extend Defenders' lead to 88-83 with 14 seconds left.

Derek Meger made a lay-up to cut DC's lead to 88-85 with four seconds to go.

Rindels added two more free-throws as Dordt secured the game. 

The Defenders outscored the Trojans 51-39 in the second-half, including a 24-10 run in the final 4:42 of the game.

Dordt shot 63 percent from the field (17-of-27) in the final twenty minutes of the game compared to Dakota State 46.2 percent (12-of-26).

Bryant Allen led the Trojans with 28 points on his 9-for-16 shooting from the field.  He was 3-for-7 from the 3-point arc and nailed down all seven free-throw attempts.  Miguel Sansavour added 16 points as he was perfect 6-for-6 from the field.  Meger scored nine points off the bench.  Adam Hofer and Seth Cavanaugh each added eight points.  Boomsma and Taylor Zirbel each had six points.

Allen dished out six assists for DSU.  Ian Barse added three assist.

Meger grabbed five rebounds for the Trojans.  Allen added four rebounds.

Allen and Barse each recorded three steals for Dakota State.  Nathaniel Rauen had two steals.

Five players scored in double-digits for Dordt, led by Rindels with 22 points.  He was 7-for-12 from the field and converted all eight free-throws.  Bryan Sumner and Andrew O'Donnell each added 12 points.  Wolterstorff scored 15 points.  Taylor Feenstra had 11 points.

Rindels earned nine boards for DC.  Wolterstorff and Feenstra each had seven rebounds.

Rindels dished out six assists for the Defenders.  Patrick Knoblauch added five assists.

Dordt shot 54.7 percent overall from the field (29-of-53) compared to Dakota State 52.7 percent (29-of-55).  Both teams made seven 3-pointers.

The Defenders were 25-for-38 at the free-throw line (65.8 percent).  The Trojans made 20 free-throws in 31 tries (64.5 percent). 

Dordt outrebounded Dakota State 38-23, including 14-6 on the offensive boards.  DC scored 11 second-chance points compared to the Trojans' 6 points.

The Trojans outscored the Defenders 25-11 in points off turnovers.

Dakota State heads on the road Saturday for an afternoon match-up with Grand View (Iowa).  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from the Sisam Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
