MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University men's basketball team officially released its 2013-14 men's basketball schedule on Monday. The Trojans' schedule includes 13 home games, 2 classics and 4 exhibition games against NCAA schools. DSU is scheduled to play five teams (playing each team twice) that qualified for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament last season.
Dakota State is coming off their best season in school history in 2012-13, recording 25 victories. The Trojans captured the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Postseason Tournament for the second straight year and advanced to the NAIA's 'Elite Eight' for the first time since 1992.
DSU burst into the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Postseason national poll for the first time in school history at No. 14 (tie).
The Trojans kick off the 2013-14 season with two straight games at home against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The Trojans host Mount Marty (S.D.) on Oct. 30 and NAIA national qualifier Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 5.
Dakota State then heads to the Corn Palace for their next three games. The Trojans play in the Corn Palace Classic versus Benedictine (Ill.) – who is coached by former DSU men's basketball athlete Ian McKeithen – on Nov. 8 and NAIA 'Sweet Sixteen' qualifier Bellevue (Neb.) on Nov. 9. DSU play their long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan on Nov. 13.
The Trojans play their first exhibition game at NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.) on Nov. 15 and return home the next day (Nov. 16) against Trinity Bible (N.D.).
Dakota State is slated to play two straight exhibition games against members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and NCAA Division II schools. The Trojans visit Augustana (S.D.) in Sioux Falls on Nov. 23 and Minnesota State-Mankato on Nov. 25.
DSU continues the action on the road during Thanksgiving break. The Trojans are scheduled to play in the Midland (Neb.) Classic versus Evangel (Mo.) – NAIA Division I national qualifier – on Nov. 29 and NAIA Division II qualifier Midland on Nov. 30.
Dakota State plays their fourth and final exhibition game on Dec. 4 at NCAA Division I South Dakota State, winner of last two Summit League Tournament champions.
The Trojans play a home contest versus Morningside (Iowa) on Dec. 7.
After a road game at Trinity Bible on Dec. 10, DSU returns home for a two-game home stand versus Martin Luther (Minn.) on Dec. 12 and AIB (Iowa) on Dec. 17. The Trojans visit Waldorf (Iowa) on Dec. 21.
During the Christmas break, Dakota State will play four games, with two each at home and on the road. The Trojans welcome DWU on Dec. 30 and Midland on Jan. 4. DSU plays Bellevue on Jan. 8 and Morningside on Jan. 15.
Dakota State hosts former Dakota Athletic Conference foe and NCAA Division II member South Dakota Mines on Jan. 18.
DSU kicks off their conference schedule in the newly-formed North Star Athletic Association. The Trojans host Presentation (S.D.) in the first-ever NSAA conference at the DSU Fieldhouse on Jan. 22.
Dakota State plays their final non-regular season game at Dordt (Iowa) – which advanced to NAIA's 'Elite Eight' round – on Jan. 25.
The Trojans return back to conference play for the rest of the schedule including home-and-away contests with Mayville State (N.D.), Valley City State (N.D.) and Jamestown (N.D.) (the Trojans will play a road game at Presentation on Feb. 8).
The NSAA men's basketball conference tournament kicks off with a quarterfinal action on Feb. 26. Semifinals will take place on March 1. The NSAA conference championship game takes place at the highest seed remaining on March 3.
The 23rd Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament will take place in Point Lookout, Mo. on the campus of College of the Ozarks from March 12-18.
