ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) could not overcome their slow start Saturday evening in a men's basketball non-conference action at Bultman Center versus Northwestern (Iowa).  The Red Raiders raced to a 43-20 halftime lead and never looked back for an 85-63 victory, sweeping the season series over the Trojans.

Dakota State fell to 2-5 overall record.  Northwestern, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, raised their overall record to 5-2.

The Trojans earned the first lead of the game at 2-0 after a basket by Miguel Sansavour with nineteen minutes and 46 seconds on the clock in the first-half.

The Red Raiders went on an 11-2 scoring run for an 11-4 lead with 16:11 left before intermission.

NWIA outscored DSU 32-16 in the final 16:11 of the first-half for a 23-point halftime lead.

Northwestern shot 53.1 percent from the field in the first-half (17-of-32).  The Trojans struggled from the field, shooting 24.2 percent (8-of-33) in the first-half.

The Red Raiders' lead grew to 50-25 with 17 minutes remaining in the game. 

Trailing 61-40, the Trojans used a 16-7 to cut NWIA's lead to 67-56 with less than six minutes of the game.

Northwestern would close the game with an 18-7 scoring run.

DSU outscored NWIA 44-42 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Seth Cavanaugh scored 15 points for the Trojans.  Derek Meger added 11 points.  Adam Hofer tallied nine points.  Bryant Allen and Sansavour each had eight points.

Meger grabbed eight rebounds for DSU.  Sansavour earned six boards. 

Hofer dished out four assists for Dakota State.  Meger had three assists.

Allen and Hofer each had two steals for the Trojans.

Taylor Francis and Bryce Moss each had 18 points for the Red Raiders.  Jordan Baker scored 14 points.  Nathan Wedel had five assists.

Coltin Kooima, Baker and Moss each pulled down six rebounds.

Northwestern shot 51.6 percent overall from the field (32-of-62) compared to Dakota State 32.9 percent (23-of-70).  NWIA was 7-of-19 from the 3-point line (36.8 percent), while DSU was 8-of-34 (23.5 percent). 

The Trojans were 10-of-17 from the free-throw line (58.8 percent).  The Red Raiders made 14 free-throws in 24 attempts (58.3 percent).

NWIA outrebounded DSU 51-36. 

Dakota State continues their busy schedule on the road as they play a pair of exhibition games against members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and NCAA Division II.  The Trojans make their first stop at the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Monday evening.  Tip-off from the Stewart Center is set for 7 p.m.
