MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) earned their first lead of the game at 52-51 with less than six minutes remaining Saturday evening at DSU Fieldhouse in men's basketball action versus the nationally-ranked Bellevue (Neb.).  The Trojans, despite shooting 52 percent from the field in the second-half, were unable to hold on to their lead as the Bruins hang on to a 68-64 victory.

Dakota State fell to 3-7 overall record.  Bellevue, No. 8 in the first-regular season NAIA Division II Men's Basketball 'Top 25' national poll, raised their overall record to 8-2.

Bellevue started the game by draining a pair of 3-pointers by Dimitri Chonis and Yusuf Shehata in the first 1:37 for a 6-0 lead.

DSU snapped their scoring drought with a lay-up by Miguel Sansavour (assisted by Adam Hofer) with 18:07 left in the first-half.

Leading 13-12, the Bruins outscored the Trojans 12-2 to earn an 11-point lead at 25-14 with 5:53 remaining before halftime.

Dakota State closed the first-half with a 5-0 run, thanks to a basket by Sansavour with 48 seconds left and a 3-pointer by Hofer as the first-half expired.

Bellevue shot 50 percent from the field in the first-half, converting 14 baskets in 28 attempts.  The Trojans were 12-for-31 from the field (38.7 percent).  BU was 6-for-13 from the 3-point line while DSU was 5-for-14.

With BU leading 51-46, Dakota State stormed back with a 6-0 run.  Ian Barse's basket gave the Trojans a one-point lead (52-51) with 5:59 remaining.

The Bruins quickly answered back with a 3-pointer by Thomas Hammock to regain their lead at 54-52 (5:39 left) and never trailed for the rest of the game.

DSU could get no closer than two points on a pair of occasions – 61-59 with 51 seconds left after Sansavour's basket and a 3-pointer by Bryant Allen with seven seconds left.

The Trojans were 13-of-25 from the field in the final twenty minutes of the game.  The Bruins struggled from the field, recording 31.5 percent shooting (11-of-35).  BU made five 3-pointers in the second-half while DSU recorded two 3-pointers.

Sansavour scored 19 points for the Trojans on his 8-for-11 shooting and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.  Allen and Barse each added nine points.  Derek Meger had eight points.  Seth Cavanaugh scored seven points.  Hofer and Adam Fideler each tallied six points. 

Meger grabbed six rebounds for Dakota State.  Hofer had five rebounds.  Sansavour recorded two blocked shots.

Hofer dished out six assists for DSU.  Barse added three assists.

Meger, Allen, Hofer and Nathaniel Rauen each stole the ball once for the Trojans.

Percy Lemle scored 19 points off the bench for the Bruins.  Shehata had 14 points.  Hammock added nine points.

Alex Worthen-Harris earned 12 boards for Bellevue.  Shehata and Lemle each added five rebounds.

Lemle recorded a game-high nine assists for BU.  Worthen-Harris and Olutola Olushola each had two steals.

Dakota State shot better in the game, shooting 44.6 percent overall (25-of-56).  Bellevue was held to below 40 percent shooting – 39.7 percent – and made 25 baskets in 63 attempts.

BU was 11-for-28 from the 3-point arc (39.3 percent) while DSU was 7-for-24 (29.2 percent).

Both teams made seven free-throws in the game.

Bellevue outrebounded Dakota State 37-34.

The Bruins' bench scored 33 points compared to the Trojans' bench 15 points.  BU outscored DSU 16-3 in points off turnovers.

Dakota State looks to bounce back in the winning column as they kick off their four-game stretch on the road.  The Trojans make their first stop in Sioux City, Iowa, visiting Briar Cliff (Iowa) on next Saturday.  Tip-off from the Newman Flanagan Center is set for 3 p.m.
