SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff (Iowa), ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, drained 15 3-pointers for an 81-61 non-conference victory over Dakota State (S.D.) at the Newman Flanagan Center.  It was the second straight game that the Trojans had faced a team that is ranked in the NAIA's Top 25.

Dakota State fell to 3-8 overall record.  Briar Cliff, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, lifted their overall record to 10-3.

The Trojans quickly jumped to a 4-0 after a field goal by Miguel Sansavour and Derek Meger.  The Chargers answered back with an 8-0 run to gain an 8-4 lead with sixteen minutes and twelve seconds left in the first-half.

Leading 13-11, BCU outscored the Trojans 24-14 in the final 12:42 of the first-half to earn a 37-25 halftime advantage.

The Chargers were 14-of-24 from the field (58.3 percent) in the first-half, including 6-for-12 from the 3-point arc.  DSU was 10-of-24 from the field (41.7 percent) and 2-for-7 from the 3-point line.

Briar Cliff maintained control for the rest of the game, holding their double-digits lead.  The Chargers had the biggest lead of the game at 66-37 with 9:22 remaining in the game.

The Trojans could get no closer than 15 points at 75-59 with 2:24 left.  BCU outscored DSU 44-36 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Briar Cliff shot 15-for-28 from the field (53.6 percent) in the second-half compared to Dakota State 12-of-25 (48 percent).  The Chargers made 9 3-pointers out of 13 attempts in the second-half while the Trojans were 2-of-10.

Ian Barse led the Trojans with 14 points on his 5-for-10 shooting from the field (2-for-5 from the 3-point line) and made both free throw attempts.  Sansavour added 10 points.  Meger had nine points.  Adam Hofer and Taylor Zirbel each scored eight points.

Barse pulled down seven rebounds for DSU.  Meger and Zirbel each had six rebounds. 

Hofer stole the ball four times in the game for Dakota State.  He dished out three assists.  Meger and Barse each had two assists.

Austin Lefler had a game-high 18 points, all on 3-pointers (6-for-10 overall and 6-for-9 from the 3-point line) for the Chargers.  Ricky Williams scored 13 points off the bench.  Shane Graves and Clay Harreld each added 11 points.

Lefler and Austin Homan each had four rebounds for BCU. 

Graves produced four assists for Briar Cliff.  Zach Otting and Austin Pohlen each had three assists.  Graves, Lefler, Matt Berg and Pohlen each recorded two steals.

BCU shot a sizzling 55.8 percent overall from the field (29-of-52) compared to the Trojans' 44.9 percent (22-of-49).  The Chargers made 15 3-pointers in 25 attempts (60 percent) while DSU was 4-of-17 from the 3-point line (23.5 percent).

The Trojans went to the free-throw line 20 times, converting 13 free-throws (65 percent).  BCU was 8-for-14 free-throws (57.1 percent).

DSU outrebounded Briar Cliff 32-27.

Dakota State continues their road action next Saturday (Dec. 20).  The Trojans visit AIB (Iowa) in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off from the AIB Activities Center is set for 3 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
