BELLEVUE, Neb. – The Dakota State University men's basketball team faced the nationally-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) for the second time this month Tuesday evening on the second day of the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center as part of the Hampton Inn Classic.  The Trojans, despite leading the majority of the first-half, fell short to the Bruins by the score of 64-61 in the last game of the 2014 year.

Dakota State fell to 4-10 overall record.  Bellevue, ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, improved their overall record to 12-2.

The Bruins swept the season series over the Trojans this season, with both meetings decided by four points or less.  Both times, BU was ranked in the NAIA's Top 10 (BU was No. 8 when they defeated DSU 68-64 on Dec. 6 in Madison, S.D.).

At 8-8, DSU went on a 12-4 scoring spurt to earn the biggest first-half lead at 20-12 with eleven minutes and twenty-five seconds left on the clock.

Trailing 29-23, Bellevue would close the first-half with a 12-4 scoring run in the final 6:58 of the first-half to earn a 35-33 halftime advantage.

Both teams went through four ties and four lead changes in the first twenty minutes of the game.

Dakota State kicked off the second half after Ian Barse (FR/Rapid City, S.D.) hit a 3-pointer to earn a 36-35 lead with 19:20 remaining.  The Bruins answered back with a 5-0 to earn a 40-36 lead with 17:38 left.

Leading 45-43, BU went on a 11-4 scoring spurt to extend to the biggest lead of the game at 56-47 with 6:42 left in the game.

The Trojans could get no closer than three points on three different occasions – 58-55 with 1:34 left, 60-57 with 33 seconds remaining and 64-61 with one second left.  The Bruins were able to gain the final possession to seal the victory.

BU outscored DSU 29-28 in the second half.

Dakota State was led by Cameron Robinson (SR/Oxford, Ga.) and Barse with 15 points each.  Both were 3-for-6 from the 3-point line.  Adam Hofer (SO/Huron, S.D.) added 12 points on his perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from the 3-point arc.  Bryant Allen (SR/Maplewood, Mo.) scored seven points off the bench. 

Allen earned five rebounds for the Trojans.  Derek Meger (JR/Duluth, Minn.), Robinson,  and Barse each added four rebounds.

Meger dished out four assists for DSU.  Brendon Boomsma (FR/Crooks, S.D.) added three assists.

Robinson stole the ball three times for Dakota State.  Miguel Sansavour (SR/Point Fortin, Trinidad) recorded two blocked shots in the game.

Alex Worthen-Harris scored 20 points for the Bruins.  He was 6-for-9 from the field and made all seven free-throw attempts.  Percy Lemle added 11 points off the bench.  Dimitri Chonis and Thomas Hammock each had nine points. 

Chonis led BU with eight rebounds.  Marquis Aaron added seven rebounds.

Taylor Young recorded three assists for Bellevue. 

Both teams shot 42.9 percent overall from the field with DSU making 24 baskets in 56 attempts, while BU made 21 field goals in 49 attempts.

The Trojans drained nine 3-pointers in 19 attempts (47.4 percent) compared to the Bruins' 6-for-16 from the 3-point line (37.5 percent). 

Bellevue was 16-of-19 from the free-throw line (84.2 percent), with 10-of-12 free-throws coming in the first-half.  DSU was just 4-for-6 at the free-throw line (66.7 perent).

BU outrebounded DSU 35-28 in the game.

The Trojans recorded 14 assists compared to the Bruins' 9 assists.

Dakota State returns home Saturday evening to face another team that is ranked in the NAIA's Top 10.  The Trojans look to kick off the 2015 year on a higher note as they host No. 8 Midland (Neb.) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.  Tip-off from the DSU Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
