MITCHELL, S.D. – Saturday's game marked the third straight game that the Dakota State (S.D.) faced a nationally-ranked team in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball 'Top 10' rankings, visiting long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).  The Tigers shot 57.7 percent in the first-half and never trailed in the game for a 67-42 victory over the Trojans.

Dakota State dropped their overall record to 5-11.  Dakota Wesleyan, No. 3 in the latest national poll, raised their overall record to 18-1.

The Trojans held the Tigers to 24 points below their team average.  DWU averaged 91 points per game this season before entering the game tonight.

DWU opened up with a 21-6 lead with eleven minutes and thirty-four seconds on the clock in the first-half.

The Tigers earned a 40-21 halftime advantage.  DWU was 15-of-26 from the field (57.7 percent) in the first twenty minutes of the game compared to DSU 9-fo-26 (34.6 percent).

DSU could get no closer than 15 points at 40-25 with 19:14 left as DWU secured the victory.

Dakota Wesleyan outscored Dakota State 27-21 in the second-half.  Both teams shot below 40 percent in the final twenty minutes with DWU shooting 35.7 percent (10-for-28) and DSU 33.3 percent (8-for-24).

The Trojans were led by Derek Meger (JR/Duluth, Minn.) with 13 points.  He was 6-for-7 from the field.  Miguel Sansavour (SR/Point Fortin, Trinidad) added nine points.  Bryant Allen (SR/Maplewood, Mo.) had seven points.

Cameron Robinson (SR/Oxford, Ga.) pulled down seven rebounds for DSU.  Sansavour added six rebounds.  Nathaniel Rauen (FR/Zumbrota, Minn.) had four rebounds.

Sansavour produced two assists and recorded one blocked shot for Dakota State.  Adam Hofer (SO/Huron, S.D.), Allen, Robinson and Rauen each added one assist. 

Dakota Wesleyan had a pair of 20-plus scorers in the game.  Kris Menning scored a game-high 23 points while Trae Bergh added 20 points.  Jade Miller tallied 10 points.

Luke Bamberg collected 14 rebounds for the Tigers.  Menning added five rebounds.

Tate Martin dished out five assists for DWU.  Bergh added four assists.  Bamberg stole the ball three times.

Miller, Menning, Luke Carr and Stephen Lee each had a block for Dakota Wesleyan.

The Tigers shot 46.3 percent overall from the field (25-for-54) compared to the Trojans 34 percent (17-of-50).  DWU was 6-for-19 from the 3-point line (31.6 percent). 

Dakota Wesleyan was 11-for-15 from the free-throw line (73.3 percent).  Dakota State was 6-for-9 free-throws (66.7 percent).

DWU outrebounded DSU 34-28.

Dakota State returns home Monday as they continue their non-conference schedule, hosting Oglala Lakota (S.D.).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., or approximately 25 minutes after the completion of the women's game at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
