MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.), despite taking off to a fast start in the North Star Athletic Association men's basketball conference opener versus Presentation (S.D.) Wednesday evening at DSU Fieldhouse, trailed by six points early in the second-half.  The Trojans used a strong surge midway (27-6 scoring run) through the second half and held off the Saints by the score of 86-78, extending DSU's winning streak to three straight games.

Dakota State won their fourth game in the last five games to raise their overall record to 8-11.  The Trojans had won the last three home games and the last five NSAA conference games dating from last year.  Presentation dipped their overall record to 10-5 and 0-1 NSAA conference record.

The Saints missed the first five shots, missed two free-throws and committed three turnovers in the first four minutes and twenty-one seconds of the game to allow the Trojans scored 13 straight points.  DSU was 6-for-8 from the field during the scoring run for a 13-0 lead with 15:39 remaining in the first-half.

Presentation ended their scoring drought after draining a 3-pointer by Cameron Isreal with 15:23 on the clock in the first-half.

With the Trojans leading at 33-23, PC stormed back by using a 15-4 run to earn their first lead of the game at 38-37 with 24 seconds left before halftime.

Adam Hofer nailed down a lay-up with just less than two seconds remaining as the Trojans regained their lead at 39-38 by halftime.

Dakota State shot 51.7 percent from the field (15-of-29) in the first twenty minutes of the game compared to Presentation 42.9 percent (15-of-35).  The Saints were 6-of-13 from the 3-point line while the Trojans were 4-of-11.

Tied at 43-43, the Saints used a 9-3 scoring to grab a six-point lead at 52-46 with 15:02 left in the game.

The Trojans roared back with a 27-6 monstrous run to gain the biggest lead of the game at 73-58 with 7:21 left in the game.  During the scoring run, DSU drained a total of five 3-pointers with 3 coming from Ian Barse and a pair of 3-pointers from Hofer.

Presentation could get no closer than seven points at 85-78 with 18 seconds left in the game.

DSU outscored PC 47-40 in the second-half.  The Trojans were 15-of-30 from the field (50 percent), while the Saints were 16-of-31 field goals (51.6 percent).

Barse scored a game-high 24 points off the bench for Dakota State.  He was 8-of-14 from the field, including 5-for-7 from the 3-point range and made 3-of-4 free-throws.  Hofer added 19 points on his 5-for-9 field goal shooting (3-for-5 from the 3-point line) and converted 6-of-8 free-throws.

Sansavour tallied 17 points for the Trojans (5-of-9 field goals and 7-of-8 free-throws).  Derek Meger had eight points.

Meger had a game-high nine rebounds for DSU.  Sansavour and Barse added seven boards. 

Bryant Allen, Hofer and Cameron Robinson each produced four assists for Dakota State. 

Meger, Sansavour, Allen, Hofer, Brendon Boomsma, Barse and Taylor Zirbel each recorded a steal in the game for DSU.

Sansavour recorded three blocks in the game for the Trojans, setting a new career blocks in DSU men's basketball history.  His 89th career block came in with 17:32 left in the second half, breaking the previous old record mark of 88 blocks set by Brian Bolin from 2006-10.

Louis Cox had 23 points for the Saints.  Isreal added 16 points.  Devin Crear scored 11 points.  Nick Gillett had 10 points.

Jeremy Comer pulled down seven rebounds for PC.  Cox had six rebounds. 

Cox dished out six assists for Presentation.  Crear added five assists. 

Dakota State shot 50.8 percent overall from the field (30-of-59) compared to Presentation 47 percent (31-of-66).  The Saints were 10-of-21 from the 3-point line (47.6 percent) while the Trojans were 9-of-20 3-pointers (45 percent).

DSU was 17-of-23 free-throws (73.9 percent), with 12-of-17 free-throws coming in the second half.  PC was 6-of-12 from the free-throw line.

The Trojans outrebounded the Saints 37-33. 

Dakota State heads on the road Saturday evening for another NSAA conference match-up.  The Trojans visit Dickinson State (N.D.) in both teams' first-ever NSAA conference meeting.  Tip-off from the Scott Gymnasium in Dickinson, N.D. is set for 7 p.m. (Central Time)/6 p.m. (Mountain Time).
