OKLAHOMA CITY – The Dakota State University baseball team played a non-conference doubleheader versus Oklahoma Christian Sunday afternoon at the Dobson Field.  The Trojans earned a 2-0 early lead in the first game, but the Eagles produced 10 unanswered runs to take a 10-2 victory.  Oklahoma Christian shut down DSU 3-0 in the second game, completing a 3-game series sweep over the Trojans.

Dakota State drops their overall record to 0-4.  Oklahoma Christian, a member of NCAA Division II school, raised their overall record to 4-5.

Game 1 – Oklahoma Christian 10, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL

The Trojans scored the first two runs of the game in the opening inning.  Nathan Wieneke kicked off the game with a single.  Tony Poncia hit a ground out sacrifice to advance Wieneke to second base.  Ian Barker hit a single to center field (Wieneke to third base during the play), but the Eagles committed a defensive error to allow Wieneke to score for 1-0 DSU lead (Barker advanced to third base during OC's defensive error).

Dakota State made it 2-0 after Ryan Schlesser reached on base by Eagles' defensive miscue and scored Barker.

Oklahoma Christian exploded for five runs in the bottom fourth frame to take a 5-2 lead, highlighted by Kolton Brown's 2- RBI single and Kyle Lacy's 2-RBI triple.

After Zac Cobble was hit-by-pitch in the bottom half of the fifth inning, Caden Cleveland produced an RBI triple to score Cobble for 6-2 lead over the Trojans.

Lacy sparked a 2-run home run in the sixth inning and the Eagles added two more runs, extending their lead to 10-2.

The Trojans left one runner on base in the final inning as Oklahoma Christian secured the victory.

Wieneke produced two singles and scored once for Dakota State.  Barker added a single and a run.  Ricardo Chagollan and JD Farley each had a hit.

Lacy had a home run, triple and posted three RBIs for the Eagles.  Cleveland had a triple, two singles and an RBI.  Brown recorded a hit and two RBIs. 

The Trojans had seven runners left on base compared to the Eagles three runners left on base.

OCU outhit DSU 8-5 in the game.  Dakota State committed three defensive miscues while Oklahoma Christian committed two defensive errors.

Mitch Bouchard (0-1) recorded the loss for the Trojans.  He pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on five hits.  Jamie Jorgensen worked 1 2/3 innings in relief, giving up five runs (two unearned) on three hits.  David Novak pitched the final two outs of the sixth inning.

Jared Price (1-0) earned the victory on the pitching mound for the Eagles.  He worked six innings, yielding two unearned runs on five hits.  Brennan Walker pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief.

Game 2 – Oklahoma Christian 3, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

The Eagles got on board in the bottom second inning of the second game.  OC grabbed a 1-0 lead after the Trojans committed a defensive error.

DSU could not convert their scoring opportunity in the top fourth frame.  Jordan Entrikin and Barker recorded back-to-back hit-by-pitch to start the inning.  Richard Sternberg hit a sacrifice to advance Entrikin to third and Barker to second.  After Jorgensen reached on base by a walk to set up the bases loaded situation for the Trojans, the Eagles ended the top fourth inning with a double play.

OC added two runs in the fifth inning as their lead grew to 3-0.

Dakota State went three-and-out in the final inning as Oklahoma Christian held on to the victory.

Jake Harris, Barker and Nick Serrata each had a single for the Trojans.  Poncia and Jorgensen each reached on base by a walk.

Cobble and Cleveland each had two hits for the Eagles.  Austin Orth had a double.

Both teams left five runners on base.  OC recorded four double plays in the game.

Taylor Boerger (0-1) took the loss on the pitching mound for DSU.  He pitched four innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits.  Anthony Martinez worked the fifth inning and gave up two runs on two hits.  Bryant Westra pitched a shutout sixth inning for Dakota State.

Zach Loomis started the game for the Eagles.  He pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up two hits.  Garett Hill (1-0) notched the victory by working for 2 2/3 innings in relief and limited DSU to one hit.  Dylon Sturges (S, 2) picked up the save by shutting down the Trojans in the seventh inning.

Dakota State won't return back to action until March 6 as they kick off their 11-game schedule in the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational.  The Trojans play Grace (Ind.) on the first day of the invitational with a first pitching starting at 1 p.m. (Central Time)/12 p.m. (Mountain Time).  All 11 games will be held at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
